Lego began life in a workshop in 1932, but it wasn't until 17 years later that the company started producing the plastic bricks for which it is famous. Beloved by adults and children alike, Lego is more than just a fun toy – the bricks teach children about experimentation, motor coordination and creative thinking and have tapped in to numerous trends, from Star Wars to Harry Potter.
Inspired by the idea that play is about more than just having fun, e2 Young Engineers are holding an exhibition and series of workshops about all things Lego, featuring incredible displays, construction competitions and screenings of some of the best Lego films. Called Beyond the Brick, this hands-on event will take place at the Newport City campus of the University of South Wales between 14 and 20 July – and you could be there. Tech Monthly has two family tickets for readers to win, to attend the exhibition on Friday 18 July. To enter the competition, please answer the following question: in which country was Lego invented? Email your answer to tech.monthly@observer.co.uk before 2 July. Winners will be chosen randomly.
