Win over Inverness won't fix Accies' problems, warns boss Stuart Taylor

Stuart Taylor says Hamilton beating Inverness on Saturday won't cover up problems at the club, and that he can't be distracted from focusing on the "bigger picture".

Accies will look to inflict a first league defeat on Inverness this season when the Highland side visit New Douglas Park on Saturday, and grab three valuable points.

But Taylor has maintained since taking the head coach role that Accies are a long-term project that won't be fixed overnight, and says even a win on Saturday won't mask the task ahead of him as he tries to build a team capable of climbing the Championship table.

He said: "I think it's just getting wins, whether they're at home or away, it's just getting as many as you possibly can to go and put a run together, or get a certain amount of points that's needed for the season, or whatever the case may be.

"I just don't want to be short-sighted and say 'we've got the win, that's it', it's about the bigger project.

"It's about the bigger picture and nothing short-term, because it's a long, long season, but we want to win every game we go into.

Taylor says Accies could have won in Dunfermline but a point is something to build on (SNS Group)

"It's about building on the points, picking up a point, or three points, keep doing that and we will be fine.

"It's a building process, that's part of it. We have to pick up points along the way, and could Saturday have been three points? Yes it could have, but it wasn't, so we go and learn from it and move forward as we've done this week.

"We looked back on last Saturday and how we can do things better, and how we can improve, so we'll go into Saturday's game with that knowledge."

Taylor says the 0-0 draw at Dunfermline last weekend is something that can provide a platform for his players, and build confidence ahead of what is likely to be a stern test on Saturday.

He said: "We kept a clean sheet, the lads worked really hard, we had good shape about us throughout the game and defensively we were solid, while I thought we created chances as well.

"Both sides of the pitch were good, and I said before about being ruthless in both boxes. We did that on the defensive side, and I thought we were very creative going forward.

It's not just the strikers who should be trying to score, says Taylor (SNS Group)

"It's the hardest thing to do in football, to score goals.

"I think every week I've always been asked about Andy Ryan and goals, but it's not just down to whoever's playing as a striker to score.

"It can be centre-backs coming up for set-pieces; Mihai Popescu has probably had - I wouldn't say the best efforts, but probably the closest efforts over the last couple of games, coming from free kicks and corners.

"Shaun Want last week had a couple of opportunities, so it's about centre-backs, full-backs, midfielders, wide players, everybody chipping in with goals.

"It's a team game, we defend from the front, so they get the plaudits last week for keeping the clean sheet, and whoever goes and scores the goals, it's a team game - it's not just down to one position."
