Wimbledon Champ Vondrousova to Celebrate Historic Win With Creative Tattoo

On the heels of a historic women’s final victory at Wimbledon, 2023 champion Markéta Vondroušová has announced to the world one of the special ways she plans to commemorate winning her first major title.

BBC reported Monday that Vondroušová, the first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon, and coach Jan Hernych intend to get matching strawberry tattoos–a nod to the tournament’s signature food. The decision comes after the 24-year-old revealed following Saturday’s final she planned to honor a pre-Wimbledon bet with Hernych, Vondroušová’s coach since 2018.

“We talked before the tournament and he said, ‘So, maybe if you win a Grand Slam, then I’ll do it,’ and then this is happening,” said Vondroušová, who boasts an array of tattoos on her arms. “So, I hope he’s not going to back [out], I think I’m just going to make him do it. We’ll see but I hope we can make it happen here.”

According to BBC, Vondroušová and Hernych’s plans to get the tattoos in London were postponed, with the pair now reportedly planning to visit a parlor in Prague at a later date for the session.

While it remains to be seen how the finished product will turn out, one thing for certain is that Vondroušova’s big plans should make for a lasting way to mark her big day. Not to mention, Monday’s announcement also made for a nice segue to her latest career accolade.

Following her straight-sets defeat of Ons Jabeur at the All England Club, Vondroušová—a silver medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics—stunned tennis fans again in the latest WTA rankings, as the Czech Republic native rose 32 spots to become the new world No. 10.
