Wimbledon 2026 LIVE
Novak Djokovic begins yet another Wimbledon campaign eyeing that elusive 25th Grand Slam title. The veteran Serb takes on the unseeded Chinese player Yibing Wu on Centre Court. Djokovic, seeded seventh this year, is hoping to capitalise on a wide open men’s draw that does not see Carlos Alcaraz, the two-time champion, involved, with the Spaniard sidelined with a persistent arm injury.
Jannik Sinner was forced to go five sets by Miomir Kecmanovic, Djokovic’s compatriot, as the defending champion began his title defence in shaky style. Djokovic will be fancying his chances this year, with Alexander Zverev, the second seed and newly-crowned French Open winner, not at his best on grass, while the other top seeds in the draw will fear the 39-year-old in the latter rounds.
That is, of course, if he comes through Wu as expected. Wu was beaten by Briton Jan Choinski in the opening round of the Eastbourne Open qualifying last week, and he was beaten in the last 16 at Nottingham, despite being seded third. Keep up to date with all the latest on Centre Court with our live blog below.

Game, set and match! Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 6-4 Wu

Here we go then.
An ace down the T opens the scoring in the 10th game of the fourth, and the crowd has loved that... or do they just want to go home?
No, they’re loving this, as Wu produces a spectacular dive return mid-rally, but he slips as he tries to recover the Djokovic dropshot!
Two points away, and quickly that becomes one as the Wu return lands long.
Three match points, but he only needs the one! He’s done it, just.
Break! *Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 5-4 Wu
22:17 , Oli Gent
Big game for Wu here. What’s he made of?
Tough stuff, as it turns out. He goes toe-to-toe with the greatest ever in the opening point, with both men ripping the ball, but the Chinese is the first to blink! 0-15.
A sublime piece of net play from Djokovic has him up 0-30, and this is prime business hours for him now. Can Wu hack it?
Yes, he very much can! A big serve, followed with a ginormous inside-out forehand winner to halve the deficit, and he levels proceedings with another rocket down the T.
Sublime defence from Djokovic, however, repelling everything Wu throws at him, until the Chinese finally misses with the backhand!
A huge break point here... which he takes, as Wu smashes long!
The crowd are in full voice and on their feet. He’s one game away.
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 4-4 Wu*
22:11 , Oli Gent
Now then. Two hours 57 on the clock. Who will blink first? Djokovic has ball in hand, and he crunches a wicked serve out wide which Wu is equal to. The Chinese can only palm a forehand into the net though, and the Serb is on the board in the eighth. It’s 30-0 in double-quick time, but he slices wide of the mark for 30-15. Heavy hitting from the seventh seed, and he’s got two game points.
We’ve hit the three-hour mark, and Wu celebrates it with a glorious chip, that he has dug out of nowhere!
A return winner is also a blast, and Wu is level once more.
Djokovic responds with a superb serve deep and into his opponent’s body, and he levels the fourth with a thunderous delivery down the middle.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 3-4 Wu
22:05 , Oli Gent
Wu is a bit erractic opening the seventh and misses wildly, but Djokovic overcooks the return to level the scores. Again, he overdoes it on the backhand as Wu goes unpunished for what was a poor second serve. That’s far better, cracking it down the middle, and we have two game points here.
Djokovic plunders a backhand into the net, and we keep going.
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 3-3 Wu*
22:03 , Oli Gent
Oh no! Djokovic looks to have the opening point wrapped up as he moves into the net, but he misses the easy approach! 0-15, and very quickly, it’s 0-30, as he swipes at a forehand, as it lands well long. He’s off kilter at the moment, netting a backhand dropshot attempt, and Wu has a huge three break points!
He just misses the first with a cross-court backhand, and Djokovic saves the next with an ace that kisses the sideline. Wu plants a backhand just too far long, and the Serb is all the way back! It’s just what he does.
But this is what Wu does! He puts everything behind the forehand return, crushing it at a fair rate of knots, and Djokovic can’t handle it! Break point number four, which the seven-time champion is alive to with a vicious wide serve.
And that is beautifully done from the seventh seed. Dragged into the net against his will by a deft dropshot, he stands his ground and guides the backhand volley away, followed by a big serve down the T! What a hold.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 2-3 Wu
21:53 , Oli Gent
Overzealous from Djokovic on the forehand side, and that allows Wu a foothold in this fifth game. A sliced backhand makes it 30-0, and the cries of “Wuuuu” ring out around Centre once more.
And rightly so, as he pops a sensational forehand line winner to set up three game points!
That is exactly how you hold serve against a seven-time champion at Wimbledon.
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 2-2 Wu*
21:50 , Oli Gent
A strong Wu reply to a big serve surprises Djokovic, who palms into the net. The Chinese goes a bit too big on his next return, just missing the baseline, but that is fearless once more from the returner, going after the serve, and just contiuning to thwack every groundstoke. 15-30, and now it’s 15-40 as Djokovic spoons a forehand long!
An ace down the T saves the first of the two break points, and Wu is devastated as his forehand return clips the tape, but drops down onto his side of the net.
To deuce we go, and the depth Wu is getting is unbelievable... that is, until he nets a backhand! A big game point here for the Serb.
He can’t convert, however, sending a backhand spiralling long, but the wide serve catches his opponent out, and he has the advantage once more.
A huge serve out wide seals a rather uncomfortable hold!
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 1-2 Wu
21:43 , Oli Gent
That’s what Wu needed - a big serve to get him going in this third game. He tries to be a bit too cute with the next, going for the sliced forehand dropshot, but gets it all wrong. He then fires a forehand far too long, and we’re at 30-30. He bests the 24-time major winner in another draining exchange, as Djokovic looks to the heavens in disbelief. A big game point here, which he takes with an ace!
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 1-1 Wu*
21:39 , Oli Gent
An ace opens up this first service game of the fourth for the seven-time champion. There’s a second for 30-0, but he’s unlucky as Wu’s miscued return lands awkwardly, and he nets the forehand on the run. Another brutal rally ensues, and as Wu finally goes long, Djokovic raises his arms aloft. Two game points, but his luck is out!
A routine forehand putaway clips the tape and bounces away! Wu is still in this, and he produces a sumptuous backhand dropshot which dies on Djokovic, and delivers deuce.
Very quickly, it’s game point once more as Wu nets the backhand return, and he finally holds! New balls, please!
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 0-1 Wu
21:33 , Oli Gent
Into the fourth we go.
Wu is still in this, and races into a 30-0 lead in the opening game. He balloons a backhand to give Djokovic a way into it, but the Serb can only land a return long to hand the Chinese two game points.
A superb drive-volley rounds off the hold,l and he’s off the mark.
Set! Djokovic 6-4 5-7 6-4 Wu*
21:28 , Oli Gent
The drama continues as Djokovic sneaks into the net, but misses a simple backhand volley, and he has his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath after another lung-busting rally that levels the scores for 15-15.
Wu is furious with himself as he loops a forehand return wide, before he fires another into the net.
Two set points for the seven-time champion... and he spurns the first, going too far long on the backhand!
Wu saves the second with some outrageous striking - no fear - as he goes hunting once more, and he’s got Djokovic on the ropes! The veteran defends exceptionally, but that is just one too many Wu putaways to deal with!
Back to deuce, and again, Wu is full of confidence. There is venom - almost an anger - behind that forehand, and he whips one into the corner, which Djokovic can only send out.
Break-back point, but that is sublime from Djokovic, not only finding the line with the serve down the middle, but to get the depth on the approach shot as well to save himself.
Here’s another deuce, as Djokovic plunders another huge serve, and let’s out an even bigger roar.
A third set point... but Wu denies him once more, with a thunderous forehand line winner!
A big serve sees the Wu return long, and here comes a fourth set point.
And at long last, he takes it! Wu sends the backhand too far, and Djokovic is ahead once more!
Break! *Djokovic 6-4 5-7 5-4 Wu
21:17 , Oli Gent
We’re past the two-hour mark and Wu is still in this and not going away quietly. He has Djokovic stretching again, and the backhand on the slide crashes into the net. Wu goes a bit too strong on the forehand, finding the tramlines, and a forehand miscue brings up 15-30. Could that be a turning point? Centre Court hope so, bursting into a rendition of ‘Let’s go, Nole”.
The Serb can’t repay the support, however, firing a backhand into the net, but that is superb this time around! He somehow reads not just the serve but the follow-up from Wu, as the Chinese rushes the net. He can’t pass him the first time, but boy does he the second, ripping a backhand cross court.
What action this is! Djokovic desperately dives to keep the rally alive at break point as Wu goes for broke, and he’s able to wrongfoot the Serb once more for deuce.
A deep Djokovic return has Wu panicking, though, and here comes break point number two.
Alarm bells ringing here... and rightly so! That is vintage Djokovic, as he cups his ear to celebrate the break!
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 4-4 Wu*
21:12 , Oli Gent
Some start for Djokovic with an ace off the bat, followed by a one-two punch with a backhand winner. Wu spoons the forehand return long for 40-0, but Wu responds, whipping his forehand for a winner to keep himself in it. That’s not for long, though, as Djokovic holds once more. Still on serve.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 3-4 Wu
21:08 , Oli Gent
This must be the best Wu has ever played in his career. This is a man that lost in the first round of qualifying at Eastbourne last week, and in the Nottingham challenger the week before that. Now, he’s 30-0 up and winning a match against Novak Djokovic on Centre Court.
It is quite remarkable, and the British crowd have a new favourite for the evening. That is cemented as he plants a forehand winner into the corner for 40-0, and he is rattling off these holds at present.
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 3-3 Wu*
21:05 , Oli Gent
Another lung-busting rally from the pair has Centre Court in raptures. Djokovic comes out on top, mind, and he follows up with a solid one-two punch for 30-0. That is some get from Wu wide to the forehand, and Djokovic misses the follow-up shot for 30-15, but his opponent rips a backhand cross-court winner to keep himself in it! An ace from the 39-year-old Serb has a game point in his favour, which he duly takes as Wu overcooks a forehand.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 2-3 Wu
21:00 , Oli Gent
A gruelling opening rally of the fifth game, which Djokovic comes out on top in for 0-15, but Wu responds with a deep forehand winner to wrongfoot the seven-time champ. Centre Court have a new favourite chant, “Wuuuuuu,” every time he hits a winner, and that follows once more as he slams an ace down the T. The pressure is on, though, being a newfound crowd favourite, and he shanks a backhand wide for 30-30. The kick serve catches Djokovic out, however, and Wu has a game point. A wide ace, and that will do nicely!
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 2-2 Wu*
20:56 , Oli Gent
A one-two gets Djokovic off to the ideal start in the fourth, and an ace follows the same trend. That is textbook defending at the net as Wu desperately tries to pass, but the Serb stands firm and brings up three game points. A straightforward hold in the end, but not before Wu flashes a return winner past the 24-time champion.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 1-2 Wu
20:52 , Oli Gent
This is really stunning stuff from Wu, who is full of confidence on his Centre Court debut. A one-two punch brings him up 30-15, but he goes a bit too hard with the follow-up forehand, and he’s pegged back to 30-30. An ace kisses the sideline on its way through, but he is hauled in once more as he drags a forehand wide.
Here’s deuce, which has some jeopardy to it! Wu slips - it has always been that end of the court - but miraculously, he keeps in the rally, and rips a backhand winner that grazes the tramline! Djokovic can’t believe it, as the Chinese holds again to keep his nose in front!
Djokovic 6-4 5-7 1-1 Wu*
20:48 , Oli Gent
Wu just needs to be careful that confidence does not spill into overconfidence. That backhand there was the right shot, but just had a bit too much on it. Equally, the next backhand return brings up 30-0, and he can’t direct the next into play. A comfortable love hold for the seven-time champion.
*Djokovic 6-4 5-7 0-1 Wu
20:45 , Oli Gent
Already you can hear how the ball will land more differently off the strings in what is now an indoor match. Wu overcooks a first backhand of this third as Djokovic seizes the upper hand, but the Chinese responds superbly with a one-two punch to open his account. Djokovic wins the groundstroke battle from the baseline for 15-30, and there are murmurings of an early break opportunity here. Those are quickly dashed as Wu flashes a backhand line winner out of nowhere, which snicks the baseline on its way through. Djokovic goes for one himself this time, but he misses agonisingly, and Wu escapes. Not for long, as he puts himself back in trouble, netting a backhand.
Djokovic goes too hard with the forehand, and Wu finally closes out the hold with a big serve down the middle.
The roof is on!
20:40 , Oli Gent
The lights are up, and away we go.
Play suspended!
20:30 , Oli Gent
The roof is coming on. A chance for Djokovic to regroup and refocus,
20 minutes break, as it is starting to get a bit grey and a bit dark.
Set! Djokovic 6-4 5-7 Wu*
20:30 , Oli Gent
Wu is showing no fear now, and why should he? More confident striking has Djokovic net a backhand, and murmurs go around Centre. Can he break here and snag the second? Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, as Djokovic delivers a volleying masterclass at the net to level the scores. It’s 15-30 now, as Djokovic takes a tumble, and he glares accusingly at the turf beneath him, after getting his racquet to the ball! His improvised effort lands just long, and there’s a bit of danger here. Not for long, with a perfect one-two wrongfooter for 30-30. An accurate serve down the middle has game point for the seven-time champion, but overcooks a forehand for deuce. That’s the serve you’re looking for in that situation, but Wu responds brilliantly with some outrageous hitting, and an even better dropshot!
Back to deuce we go, and that is ballsy from Wu, stepping in to attack the Djokovic serve. The Serb nets a forehand... and here’s a chance! Set point for the Chinese... but he spurns it and nets a forehand of his own!
Djokovic bemoans his lack of rhythm as he stretches but can only palm a backhand into the net, and Wu has a second break point opportunity here... which he takes with aplomb! A superb return, and he is level!
*Djokovic 6-4 5-6 Wu
20:19 , Oli Gent
Now then. Can Wu hold his nerve? Off the basis of that first serve, yes. Some fearless striking brings up 30-0 as he has Djokovic running once more, and he thunders down an ace for 40-0. A confident one-two punch sees him to the chair ahead. What nerves? What was I talking about in that previous comment?
Djokovic 6-4 5-5 Wu*
20:17 , Oli Gent
A nervy backhand flies long from Wu as he tries to find that elusive break. Djokovic slams a serve down the T for 30-15 to ease some of the pressure, and he lasers one with pinpoint accuracy on the postage stamp once more. 40-15, and then game as Wu shanks a return out.
*Djokovic 6-4 4-5 Wu
20:13 , Oli Gent
Wu has Djokovic on the stretch off the bat in the ninth game, and the Serb can only direct a hopeful no-look backhand into touch. An accurate T serve makes it 30-0, and a wide ace brings up three game points. He holds once more after a brief slip, and this set looks like it may be headed for a tiebreak...
Djokovic 6-4 4-4 Wu*
20:09 , Oli Gent
Right then. What does the 24-time major champion have in response? An ace, out wide, as it turns out. But Wu is still here, remember, and he whacks a forehand line winner out of nowhere on the run to level! That is immediately undone by overcooking his return, and he can only arrow a backhand into the net as Djokovic goes for the body. Two game points, he only needs one, let’s move on.
*Djokovic 6-4 3-4 Wu
20:05 , Oli Gent
New balls, which Wu relishes as he gives the first and second a good whack to go up 30-0. Djokovic overcooks the return, and this is proving quite a comfortable game for the Chinese, who holds to love with an ace.
Djokovic 6-4 3-3 Wu*
20:03 , Oli Gent
Some grunts coming out now from Djokovic as he knows he’s in a bt of a scrap. He wins out in the first point, and it’s 30-0 shortly after. Make that 40-0, as he smashes a serve down that Wu can only deflect long. A forehand return is wide, and it’s 3-3.
*Djokovic 6-4 2-3 Wu
19:59 , Oli Gent
A great first exchange of the fifth as both players look to stretch the other. Djokovic is drawn into the net and shows great hands down low, but Wu tries to lob him... and it lands just long! The Chinese gets lucky as his backhand kisses the net, and it allows him to pass Djokovic with ease for 15-15, as the Serb rues his luck. Wu thunders an ace down the T to have himself up in the game, but he goes too big in the battle of the slices, looking to upset the flow and boom a forehand, but he nets it. 30-30, and a chance for Djokovic here, but Wu responds well with a big serve for game point, and he holds as the seven-time champion blasts a forehand long.
Djokovic 6-4 2-2 Wu*
19:55 , Oli Gent
An ace curling away from Wu has Djokovic up in the fourth game, and he sends another down the T for 30-0, Wu does really well to react and get across to reach that next serve, but he can’t do anything about the backhand winner. Another easy love hold.
*Djokovic 6-4 1-2 Wu
19:52 , Oli Gent
Djokovic crouches in despair as he watches his sliced backhand land in the tramlines for 15-15. He’s not happy about that one. He is alive to the next one though, as Wu goes hunting with the inside-out forehand, but Djokovic reads him expertly, guessing right and sending a rocket of a backhand pass through. 15-30, but it’s suddenly 15-40 as Wu overcooks a forehand. Danger here for the Chinese, but he saves one of those break points with a superb backhand pass up the line... and the next goes awry for Djokovic as well, as he fires another line winner beyond the Serb!
Here’s a first deuce, which he thunders down a T ace, followed by a big one-two punch. Solid hold.
Djokovic 6-4 1-1 Wu*
19:47 , Oli Gent
A deep return from Wu has Djokovic scrambling, and he can only divert his improvised shot wide. Wu suffers a nasty slip as the Serb wrongfoots him for 30-15, but he’s ok. So good in fact, that he plunders a superb return that has Djokovic on the move once more, and it is the Chinese’s turn to wrongfoot his opponent this time. That said, Djokovic sends down a bullet serve to tee up game point, and he is off the mark in this second set.
*Djokovic 6-4 0-1 Wu
19:43 , Oli Gent
Someone has been proposed to in the crowd between sets, and Djokovic wishes the happy couple well before embarking on this second set.
A brutal opening exchange occurs, which Wu wins out, running the Serb ragged behind the baseline as he dictates. A one-two punch follows for 30-0, and Djokovic frames his backhand return for three game points. That will settle Wu’s nerves substantially as he closes out the love hold.
Set! Djokovic 6-4 Wu*
19:38 , Oli Gent
A wry chuckle from the Centre Court crowd as Djokovic pulls out a dive-volley winner after a sneaky net approach. Wu fires back with a zipping forehand cross-court that Djokovic - at any age - was never getting to. Wu looks to smack his return at Djokovic’s feet, but the Serb gets it back and soaks up the pressure, producing a sumptuous lob as the Chinese rushes forward, 30-15. But Wu is still in this one, forcing Djokovic to gasp as he stretches for a backhand, and Wu presses on with a line winner of his own! The crowd holds its breath as Djokovic slips, allowing Wu’s backhand return to fly through unchallenged for break-back point, but Djokovic responds remarkably with a wide ace.
Here’s deuce, which quickly becomes another break point opportunity for Wu, as he steps inside the baseline and hammers a backhand cross-court that Djokovic can only direct into the bottom of the net. But that is another exemplary reply from the great man, with a big serve when it matters to nullify the danger. Back to deuce, but that is suddenly set point as Wu is overzealous on the return.
Finally, Djokovic snares the first set, with 38 minutes on the clock, as he drives a forehand cross-court, which Wu can only knock into the tramlines.
*Djokovic 5-4 Wu
19:30 , Oli Gent
The pressure is on Wu as he serves to stay in the opening set. He gets off to a good start getting his first two first serves in, and he brings up 30-0 stretching Djokovic all over the place, rounding off with a stylish line winner. A double fault has immediately killed that vibe, but he brings it back immediately with a superb cross-court forehand. An ace forces Djokovic to serve this one out.
Djokovic 5-3 Wu*
19:27 , Oli Gent
He’s really trying to take the game to Djokovic, Wu, but he overdoes a backhand. The same happens off the forehand flank, and it’s 30-0 in a flash. He almost flukes a return winner down the line, but again, it can only find the back of the court. Another simple love-hold for the 24-time major champion.
*Djokovic 4-3 Wu
19:24 , Oli Gent
Wu opens his account in the seventh game with a classic serve-volley, but a Djokovic backhand is lasered to perfection down the line for 15-15. Djokovic lures Wu in with a sliced backhand dropshot, and the Chinese can only go long with his pick-up at the net. Danger here at 15-30, but he averts it wonderfully, spanking an inside-out forehand into the corner. An accurate wide serve brings up game point, and he keeps himself within one again - albeit one break.
Djokovic 4-2 Wu*
19:21 , Oli Gent
A 123mph ace down the middle has Djokovic away, and he appears to stop play after retrieving a forehand wide, leaving Wu to put it away with ease. A return flies long for 30-15, with another just finding touch for two game points. Another easy hold for the man in charge.
*Djokovic 3-2 Wu
19:17 , Oli Gent
Another netted forehand is not the start to the service game that Wu would have wanted, and he plants another into the tramlines. Alarm bells ringing at 0-30, but that is more like it, being aggressive and going toe-to-toe with Djokovic with his groundstrokes, as the Serb eventually goes long. He’s not out of the woods yet, but an ace down the T will do nicely to get him back level in the fifth game. He turns it completely on its head with another ace into the corner, and he wraps it up with a one-two punch of his own.
Djokovic 3-1 Wu*
19:14 , Oli Gent
A one-two punch from the seven-time champion has him off the mark in the fourth game. A forehand exchange, however, is won by Wu, who flashes one into the corner as it kisses the baseline. A second one-two is the perfect Djokovic response, and Wu sprays a forehand into the tramlines for two game points. He needs just the one, as Wu nets the return.
*Djokovic 2-1 Wu
19:10 , Oli Gent
A first miss from the all-time great as he nets a sliced backhand, before it’s Wu’s turn to to the same from the approach shot. Two fine backhands from the seven-time champion open the door for a forehand winner, which brings up 15-30. He falls out of a forehand to level for 30-30, and he skews the backhand return from Wu’s successful kick serve. The Chinese is on the board, with a superb forehand cross-court - as he slips!
Djokovic 2-0 Wu*
19:06 , Oli Gent
A good first serve from Djokovic has Wu flailing on the forehand wing, and he follows that up with another down the middle. He booms one more wide once more for three game points, and a rocket down the T hands him one of the easiest love-holds of his life.
Break! *Djokovic 1-0 Wu
19:04 , Oli Gent
Away we go, with Yu making the perfect start. A first serve in, and a Djokovic backhand wide. The Chinese overcooks a forehand after the first baseline exchange of the match, and we’re back level. Another flies long, and here’s some early pressure at 15-30. A big serve out wide will quell some of that, and a first ace slammed down the T wipes it out. Game point, which Djokovic saves with a stunning looped forehand line winner, which rightly receives a ripple of applause. Wu nets a backhand, and suddenly Djokovic is in the ascendancy with a break point... and he takes it, as Wu sends one final forehand long!
Warming up!

You have to wonder what is going through Wu’s head.
Centre Court, against the great Novak Djokovic. What a moment for him.
Here they come!

The players are out, and Centre Court erupts for their king.
Seven titles here, hunting an eighth.
Biggest shocks so far

Some big names have already gone tumbling out on day one..
But who?
The entertainings looking to upset Djokovic and Sinner
18:45 , Oli Gent
Wimbledon is the biggest stage of all in tennis.
Many players have exploded on to the scene on the hallowed turf of the All England Club, and while the British faithful will always get behind their own, they are a crowd sure to back any true entertainers that enter the circus.
Carlos Alcaraz has emerged as the darling of Centre Court, with his style, youthful exuberance and no-fear mentality endearing him to the home support.
In years gone by, Dustin Brown, the charismatic German-Jamaican, stunned some of the biggest names in the sport on these very grounds, serve-and-volleying his way past both Lleyton Hewitt and Rafael Nadal in 2013 and 2015 respectively, dreadlocks flowing freely behind him after every delicate dropshot or daring dive-volley.
Around the grounds

What else has happened at Wimbledon today?
Well, it’s not been a great start for the Brits, with Cameron Norrie suffering an opening-round exit to American qualifier Michael Zheng.
Otherwise, defending champion Jannik Sinner is through - by the skin of his teeth - after he was dragged into a marathon five-setter by Miormir Kecmanovic.
Djokovic latest results

Novak Djokovic famously does not play grass-court warm-up tournaments.
This, therefore, will be his first competitive match since his stunning third-round defeat at the French Open by Joao Fonseca.
The Serb was bested by the rising Brazilian star in five sets on Court Philippe-Chatrier, with Fonseca annoucing himself on the big stage with the greatest win of his nascent career.
Before that, Djokovic underwent a poor run of form, that saw him part ways with coach Andy Murray.
He lost in the opening round of the Italian Open to Dino Prizmic, before succumbing to Jack Draper in the last 16 of Indian Wells.
Can he refind his rhythm on a court he knows so well?
