Aryna Sabalenka teed up a mouthwatering fourth-round clash with Naomi Osaka as she breezed past Jelena Ostapenko at Wimbledon.
The Belarusian, searching for a maiden title at the All England Club, powered through the Latvian 6-4 6-4 on Centre Court to move into the last 16.
The four-time Grand Slam champion has never won a title on grass. She lost in the finals at Eastbourne and Libema in recent years, and the furthest she has got at SW19 is the semi-finals, where she has now been knocked out three times.
Last year, she lost out to Amanda Anisimova, who was then double-bagelled in the final by a rampant Iga Swiatek, and Sabalenka had beaten Emma Raducanu in a thrilling third-round encounter on Centre Court.
This year, she is looking to stamp her authority on the surface, and a commanding victory over the former French Open champion Ostapenko was a good place to start.
She hit nine aces in her display, while Ostapenko was error-strewn throughout, with 21 unforced errors across the two sets.
Now, she takes on Osaka, who she has played four times in the past four months.
They first faced off at the 2018 US Open, with Osaka defeating Sabalenka en route to her first major title at Flushing Meadows.
They then locked horns at Indian Wells this year, where the world No1 won out 6-2 6-4 in the California desert, and they then were matched up on the clay in Madrid and Paris, where Sabalenka emerged victorious once more.
Osaka, a former world No1 herself, reached the final of the Berlin Open the week before Wimbledon, and she has not dropped a set en route to the fourth round.
She thrashed Daria Kasatkina 6-1 6-3 on Court No1 in her third round match, and she did so having stunned in yet another Japanese-inspired walk-on outfit.
On playing Osaka, Sabalenka said: “[She is an] aggressive player, [it will be] a very powerful match. I’m ready to bring the fire, to fight and to do anything it takes to get through.”
