Wimbledon 2025 LIVE!
It’s men’s semi-finals day at Wimbledon with two huge matches scheduled for a sweltering Centre Court this afternoon. First we will see back-to-back defending singles champion Carlos Alcaraz continue his bid for a historic three-peat as he meets American fifth seed Taylor Fritz, before world No1 Jannik Sinner then battles seven-time champion Novak Djokovic.
Alcaraz demolished last Brit standing Cameron Norrie in the last eight for his 23rd victory in a row on Tuesday, providing a timely reminder of his grass-court dominance after dropping a set in each of his wins over Andrey Rublev and Jan-Lennard Struff, having been taken five in shock fashion on the first day by Italian veteran Fabio Fognini before brushing aside home qualifier Oliver Tarvet.
He will be the favourite to overcome Fritz, who is searching for his maiden Grand Slam title this week having reached the semi-finals at the All England Club for the first time by defeating Karen Khachanov, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Gabriel Diallo and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, while Jordan Thompson retired injured from their last-16 clash. GAME, SET AND MATCH ALCARAZ -- Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 6-7(6-8) Alcaraz
16:28 , Dom SmithAlcaraz serves first and starts off with an unreturned second serve.
But after Fritz makes it 1-1, he makes a poor choice to chance on a drop shot, to which Alcaraz lobs him and then smashes away a winner from the return for a mini break.
Alcaraz is threatening to pull away in this tiebreak, serving strongly and then drop-shotting superbly for a 4-1 tiebreak lead.
Fritz still serves rockets, though. 4-2.
But Fritz turns the tiebreak on its head and wins three successive points to move a mini break ahead at 5-4.
He serves for 6-4 and now has two set points! BUT on serve, he fails to take the first. Alcaraz, playing out of his skin, wins the point and it’s back on serve!
Alcaraz hits RIGHT onto the baseline, and Fritz fires beyond it at the other end. At 8-6 in the tiebreak, ALCARAZ IS INTO THE FINAL AGAIN!
TIEBREAK -- Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 6-6 Alcaraz
16:18 , Dom SmithFritz’s serving has just been too good in this fourth set. He’s hardly given Alcaraz a sniff.
With three fierce serves it’s suddenly 40-0 Fritz, at which point Alcaraz flicks an outrageous drop shot just over the net at an incredible angle. Shot of the match.
And then his next drop shot prompts Fritz to miss - just - and makes it 40-30!
An ace is Fritz’s response. It usually is. Game. We head to a fourth-set tiebreak.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 5-6 Alcaraz
16:14 , Dom SmithAlcaraz’s second-serve on the first point is a good one but his next shot lands just out.
However, on the very next point, the venom he gets on two subsequent forehands is just startling and Fritz has no defence.
And Alcaraz’s deftness is shown in the next point, the Spaniard loitering at the net and cushioning down perfectly from a Fritz smash.
Then a 137mph ace. All manner of ways to win a point here from the 2023 and 2024 champion.
He manages to hold and is, again, a game away from the final.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 5-5 Alcaraz
16:10 , Dom SmithFritz is serving to stay in the match. If he’s broken, Alcaraz is a Wimbledon finalist for the third straight year.
He starts with a ferocious serve which Alcaraz returns high, but the ball lands out. 15-0. And another unreturned serve. 30-0.
Then what follows is an outstanding rally which has most of Centre Court applauding once Alcaraz has hit just long for 40-0 Fritz.
Hold to leave. Nerveless stuff from the American.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 4-5 Alcaraz
16:06 , Dom SmithAlcaraz’s serve is too hot to handle for Fritz, who skews his return out of the court.
Then Fritz’s return of serve on the second point is headed for Alcaraz’s chest, but he reangles his body and racquet brilliantly, cushioning a winner just over the net. 30-0.
It’s a hold to love from Alcaraz.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 4-4 Alcaraz
16:04 , Dom SmithFritz is off to a bad start on serve when he produces another double fault, but soon he is ahead on serve, after swinging an ace past his Spanish opponent.
At 40-15, Alcaraz is again beaten, this time returning the first serve but helpless with the subsequent net putaway.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 3-4 Alcaraz
16:01 , Dom SmithFirst, Fritz hits crosscourt into the tramlines on the left side for 15-0. And with a nice touch from Alcaraz it’s 30-0.
Then 40-0 with an unreturned serve.
And another. Game Alcaraz. He stays a smidge ahead.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 3-3 Alcaraz
15:59 , Dom SmithFritz, just as Alcaraz did last time out, begins with a double fault.
The American right-hander gets back to 30-15 ahead but then piledrives long off his backhand to bring Alcaraz in at 30-30 - and even further in with a poor miss beyond the baseline. Break point.
It’s saved. Deuce.
With an 135mph ace, Fritz gets out of trouble and holds.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 2-3 Alcaraz
15:53 , Dom SmithThere are some gasps around Centre Court as Alcaraz produces a double fault to go 15-30 down, but his subsequent serve pings off the metal rim of Fritz’s racquet and lands out, as does Fritz’s attempted lob on the next point. 40-30.
Slice winner from Alcaraz. Classy. Three games to two and two sets to one, he leads.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 2-2 Alcaraz
15:50 , Dom SmithWith a tight call, Fritz’s shot is called in and puts him 30-15 in front. His serving is such a weapon for him, and he uses it to good effect again to turn that into 40-15 and then game, slamming down two aces.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 1-2 Alcaraz
15:47 , Dom SmithFritz stands and stairs at his shot in disgust as a backhand lands in the tramlines for 40-15, but he reduces that to 40-30 with a decisive winner from the subsequent point.
However, Alcaraz gets over the line and holds. He leads two games to one in this fourth set.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 1-1 Alcaraz
15:44 , Dom SmithAn ace moves Fritz to 30-0, and when he wrongfoots Alcaraz and the world No2 fires wide and long, it’s 40-0.
Game.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 0-1 Alcaraz
15:41 , Dom SmithNow then, when Alcaraz hits long with two rallies in a row, Fritz has a look in for a break at 0-30 up.
But just like that the deficit is breached by Alcaraz as he follows up an ace with a Fritz miss with another ace. 40-30.
He gets over the line.
GAME AND THIRD SET ALCARAZ -- Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-6 Alcaraz
15:36 , Dom SmithA fierce shot from Alcaraz onto Fritz’s backhand is returned long, and the Spaniard now has a chance to break again to take the set.
But Fritz gets to 15-30 with a shot past Alcaraz when he is at the net. A double fault spells trouble, though, and Alcaraz has two set points.
He is not able to take advantage of the first... because of a 136mph serve, but Fritz goes long and the third set is Alcaraz’s as he breaks Fritz again!
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-5 Alcaraz
15:32 , Dom SmithAlcaraz begins with an ace on serve, and suddenly Fritz is eyeing a break back here...
An ace from Alcaraz is an emphatic response, and soon Fritz is netting for 40-15 and pulling his shirt in frustration at handing Alcaraz a potentially simple route to hold from there.
Sure enough, it’s game Alcaraz.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 3-4 Alcaraz
15:27 , Dom SmithFritz bends three aces past Alcaraz just like that. But he can’t complete the quartet as his fourth is a fault.
And would you believe it, so is the second serve. Double fault! 40-15.
With a backhand putaway at the net, he holds.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 2-4 Alcaraz
15:25 , Dom SmithAlcaraz gets a call of “COME ON CARLOS” after working his way up to 40-0 on serve. He’s serving directly into the sunlight, but it seems to matter not one iota as his latest is unreturned at 131mph and gets his hold to love over the line.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 2-3 Alcaraz
15:22 , Dom SmithAlcaraz hits a forehand attempted winner into the tramlines, placing Fritz in control of his own service game at 30-15.
With a 132mph ace, Fritz extends that and looks on course to hold.
After Alcaraz skews once more, he does.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 1-3 Alcaraz
15:20 , Dom SmithDefending Wimbledon champion Alcaraz is on a roll right now and with an ace goes 30-0 ahead, before Fritz hits deep beyond the baseline for 40-0.
His fourth serve is hit across Fritz onto the American’s backhand, and he can’t get it back over. Break consolidated with a hold.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 1-2 Alcaraz
15:16 , Dom SmithHang on a minute, Alcaraz bypasses Fritz and makes it to 0-30 on the American’s serve.
The fifth seed so nearly produces an ace but his first serve is JUST out, and off the second serve a short rally culminates in the fifth seed putting long. Three break points for Alcaraz, then.
And with an incredible lob, he takes the first!!
Fritz 4-6 7-5 1-1 Alcaraz
15:14 , Dom SmithThat’s a fine serve from Alcaraz, an ace in fact, as he makes it to 40-0 on serve in his opening service game of the third set.
When he goes down the T and Fritz can only smash his reply into the net, it’s game. On serve.
Fritz 4-6 7-5 1-0 Alcaraz
15:12 , Dom SmithFor the first straight set, it is Fritz who serves first.
And he’s very good at it. He works up to 30-0, before Alcaraz goes long with a forehand and it’s 40-0. With an ace down the T, it’s a hold to love and game for Fritz, who deserved to take the second set as he did in the previous game. He’s the player in the ascendency right now.
Both players head off
15:06 , Dom SmithA loo break for both players follows that second set. They’ll be back on court shortly.
GAME AND SECOND SET FRITZ -- Fritz 4-6 7-5 Alcaraz
15:02 , Dom SmithFritz winds up an almighty forehand winner, which flies just over the net and past Alcaraz, bringing up 0-30 on the defending champion’s serve. Interesting.
And under some considerable pressure, Alcaraz hits a double fault, and faces three set points now. With the very first one, Alcaraz hits long and has lost the second set in this match. It’s a set all!
Fritz 4-6 6-5 Alcaraz
14:58 , Dom SmithFritz builds up a 30-15 lead before producing an unreturned serve, too much sting on it for Alcaraz, for 40-15.
Then under very little pressure Fritz can only find the tramlines with a backhand, and it’s 40-30.
A super serve of 136mph is too hot to handle for Alcaraz. 6-5 the American leads in the second set.
Fritz 4-6 5-5 Alcaraz
14:55 , Dom SmithFritz is in the mood right now and with a deft net slice levels on Alcaraz’s serve for 15-15.
The next point sees Alcaraz hit the net with a forehand he ought to have made and Fritz has his eye in, but a slice from the Spaniard flummoxes him and at 30-30 the break of serve to take the set looks less likely.
Unreturned serve. Ace. Fair enough. Five games all.
Fritz 4-6 5-4 Alcaraz
14:51 , Dom SmithAlcaraz is 30-15 down but senses his moment, beginning an approach to the net when, out of nowhere, Fritz bypasses him and finds the line with a stunning backhand winner.
Before you know it, held held serve again and leads 5-4 in this second set.
By the way, it’s very hot on Centre Court. It’s no surprise some supporters have been feeling dizzy in the heat.
Fritz 4-6 4-4 Alcaraz
14:48 , Dom SmithAt 30-30 in Alcaraz’s service game, Fritz hits a fine winner and gets a break point, but Alcaraz digs in and wins three consecutive points to hold serve for 4-4. Phew...
Fritz 4-6 4-3, 30-30 Alcaraz
14:44 , Dom SmithThat’s a fine backhand winner from Fritz, who hits into the corner with a winner for 0-15 from an Alcaraz body serve.
There’s then a slight break in play as a spectator struggling in the heat is shown some attention.
Once we get back underway, Alcaraz strikes an unreturned serve for 15-15, and then an ace to turn the game in his favour at 30-15. But that’s just too good from Fritz! What a winner up the line, getting Alcaraz running but not running fast enough. 30-30 - chance for a break?
And then another delay as another spectator receives some attention after feeling unwell in the heat. The spectator has fainted, but is being helped out of the court by stewards and she appears to be OK.
Fritz 4-6 4-3 Alcaraz
14:38 , Dom SmithNice putaway by the No5 seed for 15-0. But he then gets caught stretching awkwardly with a body shot and nets.
Alcaraz goes long. 30-15.
Fritz holds when Alcaraz then nets. And we remain on serve heading into the eighth game of this second set.
Fritz 4-6 3-3 Alcaraz
14:35 , Dom SmithAlcaraz is there at the net to pass a Fritz shot out onto the open court for a 30-0 winner.
And at 40-0, he approaches the net decisively to meet Fritz’s return of serve, volleying away for a hold to love.
Fritz 4-6 3-2 Alcaraz
14:32 , Dom SmithFritz gets through another strong service game and remains in the slight lead in this second set. Now, can he put some more pressure on the Alcaraz serve just as he did the last time the Spaniard was serving?
Fritz 4-6 2-2 Alcaraz
14:30 , Dom SmithThat’s a lovely shot from Fritz, who (30-0 down) slaps a forehand winner right into the extremities of the court and past Alcaraz.
Alcaraz is then 40-15 up when a backhand volley lands JUST out and he looks to the clear blue sky above in frustration. And when he then nets, Fritz has a look in on deuce!
The Spaniard takes advantage after a long rally with Fritz popping the ball up at the net and the world No2 smashing down a winner into the open court. And with a skewed slice from Fritz, Alcaraz holds. A clench of the fists and a shout to celebrate, too! He was under more than a little pressure there.
Fritz 4-6 2-1 Alcaraz
14:24 , Dom SmithA demonstration of power from Fritz, whose 139mph is not returned in by Alcaraz, and that brings up 30-15 for the American.
And another very simple service game is completed by Fritz, who leads this second set but faces the Alcaraz serve next...
Fritz 4-6 1-1 Alcaraz
14:22 , Dom SmithSensational stuff from the defending champion, whose lob over Fritz lands RIGHT in the corner of the court, and the American’s tweener reply does not clear the net.
Ace for 30-0.
Eventually, he takes the game with ease.
Fritz 4-6 1-0 Alcaraz
14:18 , Dom SmithA fine crosscourt ace from Fritz brings up 30-0 on serve in the first game of this second set.
Alcaraz winds up a big forehand but that then lands long and Fritz’s lead grows to 40-0.
Alcaraz out. Game, to love.
GAME AND FIRST SET ALCARAZ -- Fritz 4-6 Alcaraz
14:15 , Dom SmithAlcaraz, looking to get this set wrapped up, begins with an ace and follows that up with... an ace.
At 40-0, there are three set points, and when Fritz nets poorly, Alcaraz takes the first.
Fritz 4-5 Alcaraz
14:11 , Dom SmithFritz hits a composed smash volley winner for 30-15 on serve, in a game in which he is serving to stay in this opening set.
Alcaraz then wins a phenomenal point - a battle of who can drop-shot the best. His is met with one of Fritz’s own, only for the Spaniard to drop-shot by reply straight past the American for a winner. 30-30.
Fritz goes long and it’s set point!
But it’s saved with a lovely flick of the wrist and forehand from Fritz.
He holds.
Fritz 3-5 Alcaraz
14:07 , Dom SmithAlcaraz holds firm once again on serve - still yet to be broken - and is just a game away now from the first set.
Fritz 3-4 Alcaraz
14:03 , Dom SmithA nicely carved drop-shot from Alcaraz lands just into the tramlines and places Fritz 15-0 ahead. At 30-0, an Alcaraz shot clips the net and bounces just over, to which Fritz responds with a deft chipped winner for 40-0.
Alcaraz winds up a hammered forehand but puts too much on it, the ball landing in and Fritz holding serve for the third successive service game.
Fritz 2-4 Alcaraz
14:00 , Dom SmithReally good shot from Fritz to bring up 30-30 on the Alcaraz serve with a fierce forehand that the world No2 can’t return - but then the American nets.
Fritz his-hits the ball well long with his next shot, and Alcaraz is able to confirm another hold of serve.
Fritz 2-3 Alcaraz
13:54 , Dom SmithFritz is not looking like being broken again at the moment, but a poor forehand into the net looks to bring Alcaraz into it until the Spaniard goes long on the subsequent point.
Fritz then produces the first double fault of the match, halving his lead to 40-30 - and then a stoppage in play as Alcaraz looks to be in a little discomfort in his eye. He speaks to the umpire and then gets back out onto court. But not for long. Ace. Game Fritz.
Fritz 1-3 Alcaraz
13:51 , Dom SmithFritz can’t return Alcaraz’s serve inside the white lines, so it’s 30-15, but then Fritz hits a fine winner down the line.
A superb ace down the T gets Alcaraz over the line, and he leads three games to one in this first set.
Fritz 1-2 Alcaraz
13:46 , Dom SmithAlcaraz is 15-0 down on the Fritz serve when he goes in too eager on a drop-shot, hitting the ball too early and the shot doesn’t even reach the net, let alone clear it.
30-0 is soon 40-0 as Fritz wins a rally, and with an unreturned serve it’s a hold to love for the American. He’s off the mark.
Fritz 0-2 Alcaraz
13:44 , Dom SmithAlcaraz produces some brutal first serves to work up a 40-0 lead on serve, and then achieves an unreturned ace on a second serve to ensure he holds to love and is able to back up his first-game break with absolute ease.
Fritz 0-1 Alcaraz
13:43 , Dom SmithIn a game briefly disrupted by a bird flying just over the net, Alcaraz breaks Fritz. It is a statement of intent from the Spaniard, who has two break points and takes the second thanks to a rotten bit of luck that had Fritz beaten as the ball clipped the tape.
Underway
13:39 , Dom SmithThe match begins on Centre Court, and Fritz serves first.
Here are the players
13:33 , Dom SmithFritz and Alcaraz are on Centre Court and begin their warm-up.
Standard Sport prediction
13:26 , Dom SmithAlcaraz has not made things easy for himself for much of this tournament, and neither has his opponent today - both of them taken to five sets in the very first round.
The defending champion should have enough to return to the final, but it won’t be easy.
Standard Sport prediction: Alcaraz to win, in four sets.

Alcaraz and Fritz are due to arrive on court at 1:30pm BST. Following a 10-minute warm-up, the match will begin.
Head to head (H2H) record
12:51 , Dom SmithFritz knows he is facing an almighty challenge this afternoon, and his head to head record with Alcaraz confirms as much.
In their two previous meetings on the tour, in 2023 and 2024, the Spaniard came out on top in straight sets. An ominous sign, or high time to change that?
