Wimbledon 2025 LIVE: Jannik Sinner vs Novak Djokovic semi-final result and latest reaction

Too good: Jannik Sinner cruised into the Wimbledon final with victory over Novak Djokovic - (Getty Images)

Wimbledon 2025 - LIVE!

For the first time since 2017, Novak Djokovic will not stride out onto Centre Court for the Wimbledon final. Whether he returns at all to the site of his seven SW19 titles is a matter that will be debated, after a semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner in which he was made to look every one of his 38 years.

Djokovic experienced what it has been like to face him for the past 15 years, his opponent getting everything back in play and forcing the mistakes. This was a masterclass formed not with the flamboyance and excitement of Carlos Alcaraz, but with a ruthless efficiency.

A brief drop in concentration at the start of the third set aside, it was a Sinner procession. The world number one was utterly dominant in a 6-3 6-3 6-4 victory and he will face Carlos Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, just over a month on from the pair’s epic five-and-a-half hour showdown at the French Open. They are the undisputed kings of this new era of men’s tennis, now guaranteed to have shared the last seven Grand Slam titles between them.

Djokovic has never been beaten in a completed match at Wimbledon so quickly. He has never won fewer games.

He experienced what it has been like to face him for the past 15 years; his opponent getting everything back in play and forcing the mistakes. This was a masterclass formed not with the flamboyance and excitement of Carlos Alcaraz, but with a ruthless efficiency.

A brief drop in concentration at the start of the third set aside, it was a Sinner procession. The world No1 was utterly dominant in a 6-3 6-3 6-4 victory and he will face two-time defending champion Alcaraz in Sunday’s final, just over a month on from the pair’s epic five-and-a-half hour showdown at the French Open.

They are the undisputed kings of this new era of men’s tennis, now guaranteed to have shared the last seven Grand Slam titles between them.

Sinner looks ahead to final showdown against Alcaraz

19:26 , Matt Verri

"We saw the last final - you never know [what will happen]! It's a huge honour for me to share the court with Carlos. We try to push ourselves to the limit, he is one of the players I look up to and I love watching him.

"Hopefully it's going to be a good match like the last one, I don't know if it can be better because I don't think it's possible!

"But we will try to do our best, hopefully it will be an enjoyable match to play and for you all to enjoy."

Just too good!

19:03 , Matt Verri

Final point sort of summed the majority of the match up.

Djokovic basically a spectator as Sinner sealed victory.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 6-4 Djokovic

18:52 , Matt Verri

Two loose backhands from Djokovic, falling off balance both times. Sinner 30-0 up and a couple of games away from a place in the final.

First serve out wide doesn’t come back and Sinner has three more match points.

Sinner slaps a forehand into the net, one of those goes.

But Sinner does have his win! Djokovic gets the return back in but stops still and Sinner has the easiest of tasks to seal victory.

Sensational performance.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *5-4 Djokovic

18:48 , Matt Verri

Just brutal stuff from Sinner. Hammering away with the big groundstrokes, Djokovic has just been worn down. Faced a younger, more powerful version of himself.

Sinner does enough with the backhand pass, Djokovic can’t make the volley... match point!

Djokovic taking about three seconds between points. Saves match point with a first serve.

Sinner with a second chance, as Djokovic sends the forehand long. Ace to save it!

To be fair to him he’s found a way to hold. Sinner will at least have to serve it out.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 5-3* Djokovic

18:43 , Matt Verri

This could be over in a hurry.

Ace out wide from Sinner, who has basically had one bad game in the match.

Another ace, before Djokovic near enough stops mid-point as Sinner puts a backhand crosscourt.

Think the seven-time champion has had enough of this...

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *4-3 Djokovic

18:39 , Matt Verri

Djokovic just not quick enough to get up to the net for the serve and volley, giving Sinner a big target.

That forehand is too big and Djokovic’s volley flies wide. And that one is dropped into the net. 15-40 - two break points for Sinner!

Another sluggish attempt to get up to the net, Sinner nails a return at Djokovic’s feet and there’s the break!

Sinner 6-3 6-3 3-3* Djokovic

18:37 , Matt Verri

This is feeling like what we had for two sets again. Djokovic scrambling around trying to stay in points, Sinner looking firmly in control.

Forehand is clubbing away at Djokovic’s defences, 40-15 and looks like we’re going to be level in this set very shortly.

Which we are. Djokovic gives up on the point and just watches Sinner swat away a backhand winner.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *2-3 Djokovic

18:32 , Matt Verri

Serve and volley again from Djokovic. Sinner near enough with a slide tackle to try and get there, on the ground as he flicks it long.

Djokovic then has the court at his mercy but makes a real mess of the volley - nearly missed the ball completely. 15-30.

Two break points! Sinner has steadied the ship and has a couple of chances to get it back on serve.

Needs only one! Terrible drop shot from Djokovic and his hard work is undone.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 1-3* Djokovic

18:29 , Matt Verri

He took a scenic route, but Sinner does hold to avoid falling a double break down.

Will be feeling a bit better about life, though this has turned into a real contest now. It certainly wasn’t for the first two sets.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *0-3 Djokovic

18:27 , Matt Verri

Djokovic whips a forehand winner down the line. That loose game on serve from Sinner has completely changed the feel of this match. The world number one was absolutely cruising until that point.

Now he’s 0-30 and under serious pressure. Djokovic dominating from the baseline all of a sudden.

Not sure he needed to do that, though. Goes for a huge backhand down the line, does Djokovic, and finds the net. 30-30.

Break point! Drop shot from Sinner, he’s barely gone for that all match and it doesn’t work here.

Sinner saves it, letting the high ball bounce before putting away the smash. Deuce.

Chance for Djokovic, in control of the point but sends the forehand long. Back to deuce, Djokovic starting to land his returns right on the baseline.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *0-3 Djokovic

18:20 , Matt Verri

It’s taken 80 minutes but things are starting to happen for Djokovic on Centre.

Sinner is missing for pretty much the first time, and he’s not looking quite as quick across the court. Serve and volley gets Djokovic to 30-0.

He’s looking better in the rallies too. Sinner again first to make the mistake and Djokovic consolidates the break.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 0-2* Djokovic

18:17 , Matt Verri

Djokovic experiencing what it’s been like to play him for the last 15 years. Having to go for the lines with his groundstrokes and it’s bringing plenty of errors.

Makes that one though, Sinner up to the net and beaten by the crosscourt pass.

Sinner then nets a backhand, 30-30 and this is pretty much as it’s good for Djokovic in the return games.

Well then - break point! Out of nowhere Sinner shanks a forehand into the crowd.

Djokovic breaks! Sinner nets the forehand and Djokovic waves a racket in the air. Huge roar.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 *0-1 Djokovic

18:13 , Matt Verri

Just what Djokovic needed at the start of this set. 40-0 up and he’s hardly had to hit a shot beyond the serves.

Ace down the T and he is up and running in the third.

Has to try and find a way to get something going on return, because Sinner hasn’t had to sweat at all so far.

18:11 , Matt Verri

Djokovic back up and he’ll serve at the start of this third set.

We’re in for something very special if he’s going to turn this around...

18:10 , Matt Verri

Sinner pacing around behind the baseline ready to get this set up and running.

Djokovic still receiving treatment, looks to be his left thigh he’s getting attention on.

Remember he did have that nasty fall late in his quarter-final win a couple of days ago.

18:08 , Matt Verri

Djokovic has more problems, he’s called for the trainer and it’s a medical timeout.

Not sure anything is going to help that much - Sinner has been on another planet.

Sinner 6-3 6-3 Djokovic

18:06 , Matt Verri

Well then. Double fault from Sinner to start the game.

Long, long rally, but it ends with Djokovic nearly falling over as he nets the backhand. He can’t get the return back in play next point, 30-15.

Sinner back to getting plenty of cheap points behind the first serve, and it’s now two set points.

Too. Good. Ace gives him a two-set lead over the seven-time champion!

Sinner 6-3 *5-3 Djokovic

18:03 , Matt Verri

Huge cheer from a Djokovic fan as that first serve beats Sinner. Only problem was it was out.

Their man is back at deuce, desperately trying to stay in this set.

But a forehand lands wide when he looked set to hold, so he’s once again two points away.

We’re now up to five deuces. Can Djokovic finally get the hold this time?

Yes he can. Sinner nets a backhand and that mammoth game comes to an end. Sinner will now serve for the set.

Sinner 6-3 5-2* Djokovic

17:59 , Matt Verri

Sinner jumps all over the second serve, return gives Djokovic no chance.

The Italian then runs down (again) the drop volley and wins the exchange at the net. 0-30, two points away from a two-set lead. We haven’t played an hour yet.

Djokovic hanging on, two timely first serves get him back to 30-30.

But Sinner then absolutely crunches a forehand winner that catches the line. Set point!

Saved with an ace, deuce. And another ace gives Djokovic advantage.

But back to deuce, Djokovic having balls pelted at him whenever he comes up to the net. No time to react with the volley.

Sinner 6-3 5-2* Djokovic

17:53 , Matt Verri

Djokovic wins the first point of the game on the Sinner serve and that’s enough for the loud ‘Nole’ chants to start.

Sinner waits for that to quieten down and then thunders down an unreturned first serve. And another one. Got to be serving fairly decently to make Djokovic this helpless on return.

The Serbian sends a forehand into the net and Sinner holds to 15, which is a fairly slack service game by his standards so far.

Sinner 6-3 *4-2 Djokovic

17:50 , Matt Verri

Every point a serve and volley from Djokovic in this game so far. He’s had enough of these baseline exchanges.

Working too, as Sinner sends an attempted crosscourt pass wide and Djokovic then drops a nice volley over the net.

They do finally get into a rally, at least until Djokovic decides to go big with the forehand and sends it miles long.

Ace down the T keeps him just about in touch in this set.

Sinner 6-3 4-1* Djokovic

17:47 , Matt Verri

Djokovic trying to shorten these points by coming to the net, but Sinner just drills a backhand pass down the line. Too good.

Ace out wide and it’s yet another comfortable hold for Sinner.

They’ve played 36 points on his serve in this match. Djokovic has won four of them.

Sinner 6-3 *3-1 Djokovic

17:44 , Matt Verri

Goes without saying that it’s a must-win game for Djokovic and it’s a better start. Serve and volley forces the issue and gets him to 40-0.

Sinner has had a couple of looks at the crosscourt pass, but found the net each time.

Another serve and volley, this time Sinner does lash the pass near enough right at Djokovic. 40-15.

The seven-time champion then draws a big cheer with a lovely winner. Crowd want more of a contest.

Sinner 6-3 3-0* Djokovic

17:41 , Matt Verri

Djokovic does at least get a point on the board in a Sinner service game, which hasn’t come particularly easy so far.

But it’s followed by two aces that he just watches go by.

Three on the bounce, that one out wide catches the line. Sinner has five games in a row.

Sinner 6-3 *2-0 Djokovic

17:38 , Matt Verri

This is already looking like real trouble for Djokovic.

Sinner works him around the court, such depth on the groundstrokes and then nails a forehand down the line. 0-30.

Bit of the pressure eases as that forehand goes just out from Sinner, back to 30-30.

But a superb backhand winner earns him a break point!

Ragged forehand from Djokovic and there is the break. Sinner cruising.

Sinner 6-3 1-0* Djokovic

17:34 , Matt Verri

Djokovic won two points on the Sinner serve in that set. Two. This is only going one way if those kind of numbers continue.

It is continuing here, as Djokovic sends a return long and Sinner goes 30-0 up. Make that 40-0, ace down the T.

Forehand put away and this is ruthless stuff from Sinner on serve. Djokovic not getting a sniff.

Sinner 6-3 Djokovic

17:30 , Matt Verri

Djokovic slaps a forehand into the net, 15-30 and Sinner a couple of points away from the set. It’s been fairly flat from Djokovic so far.

Two set points! Sinner is running down everything, these drop shots from Djokovic aren’t working. Italian puts away the smash.

Djokovic saves the first of the set points with an ace, and Sinner then nets a backhand. Deuce.

And then a couple more deuces, as they alternate between winners and unforced errors.

That’s wide from Djokovic, a third set point coming up for Sinner.

Takes it! Really loose backhand from Djokovic and that’s the set in 33 minutes.

Sinner 5-3* Djokovic

17:23 , Matt Verri

Djokovic needs a break from somewhere - hasn’t even come close to it yet.

Another forehand winner from Sinner, and then another unreturned first serve.

Djokovic doesn’t move as a 133mph ace out wide seals a rapid hold to love.

Sinner *4-3 Djokovic

17:19 , Matt Verri

Drop shot from Djokovic again looks to be good enough, but Sinner charges forward to get there and flicks it deep - Djokovic can’t respond. 30-30.

Would pretty much be the set gone if he gets broken here, but Sinner’s return has too much on it.

And so does the backhand down the line that follows. Battling hold for Djokovic.

Sinner 4-2* Djokovic

17:15 , Matt Verri

We’re rattling through these games.

Two first serves from Sinner is all it takes to get to 30-0.

Has to at least hit a forehand next point, but no more than that as Djokovic’s attempted pass flies out.

Better rally next point, until Djokovic slices low into the net. Six games in 18 minutes.

Sinner *3-2 Djokovic

17:12 , Matt Verri

Djokovic back into a good rhythm on serve after being broken in that last game.

Couple of aces of his own, along with an unreturned first serve. Think he hit about five shots in that game.

Sinner 3-1* Djokovic

17:10 , Matt Verri

Ace backed up with an unreturned first serve. Sinner quickly taking control of this first set.

And there’s another ace, 40-0 in about a minute.

Djokovic, now joining Sinner in wearing a cap, drops a return right on the baseline. Sinner then chucks in a double fault, 40-30.

Pressure ends there, as Djokovic’s sliced return lands juuuust out.

Sinner *2-1 Djokovic

17:06 , Matt Verri

Sinner whips a nice forehand winner down the line, and Djokovic is then off balance as he makes an unforced error. 15-30 and the first bit of danger.

Two break points! Brilliant point. Djokovic looks to have done enough with the superb drop volley, but Sinner somehow flicks it back over his head... and Djokovic can’t make the tweener lob.

Sinner breaks! Takes the first of those break points - he’s getting the better of these longer baseline exchanges.

Sinner 1-1* Djokovic

17:02 , Matt Verri

Haven’t really had a serious rally yet, both quickly getting to work on serve.

Djokovic sends a backhand return sailing beyond the baseline and Sinner is up and running with a hold to love.

Sinner *0-1 Djokovic

16:59 , Matt Verri

Royal Box near enough empty, Centre Court barely half full. Low-key start all in all.

Comfortable start, though, for Djokovic. Two Sinner forehands land long and Djokovic then sends down two first serves that don’t come back.

16:56 , Matt Verri

Both players wanting an extra couple of serves, carrying on after the umpire calls end of warm-up.

It will be Djokovic to get us up and running in this second semi-final.

Here we go!

16:51 , Matt Verri

The two of them stride out onto Centre, polite applause and a couple of cheers.

Can be expected to fill up rapidly in here, although there is one section of the stands where spectators have struggled in recent days.

There were a couple of stoppages in the first semi-final so that individuals could receive medical attention.

Not long to wait!

16:45 , Matt Verri

Djokovic and Sinner are expected on Centre Court at 4:48pm, so just a few minutes from now.

There’s hardly anyone in the crowd ready to greet them, nearly everyone taking a bit of shelter from the heat elsewhere.

Alcaraz run continues

16:36 , Matt Verri

That’s now 20 wins on the bounce for Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon.

He’ll surely be the favourite on Sunday, regardless of who is on the other side of the net in the final.

The Spaniard will now be hoping Djokovic and Sinner take lumps out of each other over five sets this evening...

Game, set and match!

16:28 , Matt Verri

Carlos Alcaraz is through to another Wimbledon final! He hasn’t lost here since 2022.

Taylor Fritz had two set points in the tie-break, but they slipped away and he has been beaten.

Are we going to get a third consecutive Centre Court final between Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic?

Or will it be another Grand Slam final showdown between Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner?

We’re going to find out soon, because Djokovic and Sinner are up next.

Centre Court update

16:17 , Matt Verri

Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz have gone to a tie-break in the fourth set!

If Alcaraz wins it, he is through to the final and the bid for a third straight Wimbledon title remains firmly on track.

If Fritz comes out on top, they’re going to a decider!

Djokovic preparing to take on dominant duo

16:07 , Matt Verri

Novak Djokovic believes his tennis is good enough to get the better of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner - but he has some doubts physically.

The 38-year-old will have to beat the world number one and then likely the defending champion Alcaraz if he is to win an eighth Wimbledon title, two matches he knows will take a toll on his body.

“It is and it has always been my greatest goal to do well in Slams,” Djokovic said.

“I'm, again, in another great position. Let's see. Sinner and Alcaraz, we know they're the dominant force right now in the tennis.

“If I want to at least go step further, I have to beat the No. 1 in the world andeventually play Alcaraz in the final.

“Physically I hope that I'll be able to sustain that. That's more of a concern than a game-wise.

“I think game-wise the way I'm feeling the ball when I'm fit and ready, I feel like I can go toe to toe with those guys and even beat them if I'm playing my best.”

Sinner can be confident

15:59 , Matt Verri

But saying all that...

It’s Sinner who has had the better of the the recent meetings between the two.

The Italian has won his last four matches against Djokovic, including in the semi-finals of the French Open just a few weeks ago.

Not many have that kind of record against Djokovic. Carlos Alcaraz, for example, has won only one of his last five matches against the Serbian.

Djokovic's Wimbledon dominance

15:51 , Matt Verri

Djokovic has won his last nine Wimbledon semi-finals - Roger Federer in 2012 was the last man to deny him at this stage.

The Serbian has made every final since 2017 on these grass courts, there’s nowhere he’s more at home.

Djokovic beat Sinner in the quarter-finals at Wimbledon in 2022 and then won in the semi-finals in straight sets a year later against the Italian.

Sinner is, of course, now a much better player, but those are mental obstacles for him to overcome.

(Getty Images)

Standard Sport prediction

15:43 , Matt Verri

Much could depend on the fitness of Sinner and Djokovic.

The Italian picked up an elbow issue in his fortunate win over Grigor Dimitrov, but that did not appear to be too much of a problem for him as he eased past Ben Shelton.

There are more doubts for Novak Djokovic, after a nasty fall late in his quarter-final win.

Sinner, that Dimitrov match aside, has been more consistent over the fortnight and has won his last four matches against Djokovic.

It promises to be a brilliant match, but one that Sinner can come through to end Djokovic’s run of final appearances.

Sinner to win in four sets

Start time

15:35 , Matt Verri

Sinner vs Djokovic is the second of the men’s singles semi-finals.

Carlos Alcaraz is currently facing Taylor Fritz on Centre Court for the first place in Sunday’s final.

The first two sets were shared, but Alcaraz has just won the third 6-3 to take control and move a set away from victory.

Sinner and Djokovic will follow that match - it looks like they could be out on court at around 4:45pm BST.
