Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz LIVE: Wimbledon 2025 final result and latest reaction

Jannik Sinner vs Carlos Alcaraz - LIVE!

Jannik Sinner claimed revenge and with it a first Wimbledon title as he battled from behind to deny Carlos Alcaraz more Centre Court glory. It was just five weeks on from Alcaraz’s remarkable French Open final victory, when he saved three championship points on his way to beating Sinner, and the Spaniard was eyeing a third consecutive title at SW19.

He claimed the first set, winning four games in a row to do so, but Sinner roared back in a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory. At the sixth time of asking, Alcaraz has tasted defeat in a Grand Slam final, and it ends the run of five straight wins he had over Sinner.

“It’s amazing to be in this position - this was only a dream of a dream because it was so far away from where I’m from,” Sinner said. “I’m just living my dream, it’s amazing.”

Jannik Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in four sets at Wimbledon and 1106 days later did it all over again.

Come the end of the world number one’s career, the first of those victories might not even merit a passing mention. It was a relatively low-key affair, Sinner getting the better of Alcaraz in the last-16 in 2022 to reach a first quarter-final on the SW19 courts.

Three years later, and with Alcaraz not having tasted defeat at Wimbledon since, Sinner delivered on the biggest stage of them all. He came from a set behind to dethrone the Spaniard on Centre Court in a 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 victory.

Alcaraz was on a 20-match unbeaten Wimbledon run, eyeing a third straight title on Centre Court and with the added mental edge of five consecutive wins over Sinner. He had won all five of his previous Grand Slam finals.

There was also the lingering memory of the French Open final and that remarkable evening five weeks ago. Sinner had three championship points against Alcaraz in Paris, let them slip and fell to an agonising defeat.

Sinner, though, secured revenge at the first opportunity. He lost the first set from 4-2 up but responded superbly and on this occasion motored over the finish line for a fourth Grand Slam title and his first away from the hard courts. Had he won at Roland Garros, Sinner would now be the current champion of all four majors.

Alcaraz looks forward to Wimbledon return

Not sure we needed it confirmed, but good to be certain that Alcaraz has no plans to retire at 22...

Sinner bounces back from French Open loss

19:39 , Matt Verri

“I had a very tough loss in Paris. But at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you win or lose in special tournaments - you just have to understand what you did wrong.

“That’s what we did, we tried to accept the loss and keep working. This is for sure one of the reasons we hold the trophy here.”

Sinner sends message to Alcaraz

19:38 , Matt Verri

“Thank you for the player you are. It’s so difficult to play against you, but we have an amazing relationship off the court and on the court we try to build up.

“To do that we need the teams in the world. Also you have that.

“Keep going, keep pushing. You’re going to hold this [the trophy] many times - you have already two!”

Reaction from Carlos Alcaraz

19:34 , Matt Verri

“Really happy for you.

“Really happy to build a good relationship off the court and then a great rivalry on the court.

“I’m really proud about everything I’m doing. At the beginning of the season I struggled a little... but then suddenly I brought joy to the court again, happy again.”

19:32 , Matt Verri

A first Wimbledon title for Jannik Sinner. A fourth Grand Slam.

This is the first time Carlos Alcaraz has tasted defeat in a Grand Slam final, having won all five of his previous appearances on the biggest stage.

He was just second best this afternoon. Raised his level to win four games in a row and take the first set, but otherwise it was a struggle.

Winning moment!

19:28 , Matt Verri

One championship point came and went, but no repeat of the French Open heartbreak for Jannik Sinner!

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 Alcaraz

19:24 , Matt Verri

GAME, SET AND MATCH!

First serve just when he needed it most.

Jannik Sinner is the Wimbledon champion!

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *5-4 Alcaraz

19:23 , Matt Verri

Not yet...

Sinner nets the backhand. One down, two to go.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *5-4 Alcaraz

19:22 , Matt Verri

Three match points - three championship points!

Alcaraz scrambling for his life to stay in the point, but eventually he’s worn down.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *5-4 Alcaraz

19:21 , Matt Verri

Long, long rally. Alcaraz’s forehand drops just in - but the next one is pulled wide. 15-0.

First serve out wide, backhand put away into the empty court. Sinner looking calm. 30-0.

19:20 , Matt Verri

Centre Court as loud as it’s been all evening.

“Carlos, Carlos, Carlos ” is the chant. He’s got one more chance to give this crowd what they want - more tennis.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *5-4 Alcaraz

19:19 , Matt Verri

That was a chance for Sinner. Had a good look at the second serve, but sends the return long.

But he then plays a stunning point, such clean hitting with the forehand and then a perfect drop volley. 30-30.

Body serve cramps him up, Alcaraz gets it to 40-30. And then lovely touch at the net to hold.

So then. Sinner will serve for the Wimbledon title.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 5-3* Alcaraz

19:16 , Matt Verri

Everyone in Sinner’s box on their feet as comes out on top in the latest baseline exchange. A point away from a massive hold.

Brilliant serve, wry smile from Alcaraz. Sinner needs just one more game.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *4-3 Alcaraz

19:14 , Matt Verri

Sinner has three opportunities to put the backhand at the net away - needs all of them. Eventually gets the job done.

But he then completely shanks a forehand out of nowhere. 15-30 and Centre Court getting right behind Alcaraz again.

Two break points! Alcaraz catches the baseline with a backhand. Still no real emotion from him - plenty from those in the crowd.

Good second serve from Sinner saves the first, Alcaraz can’t get it back in play.

And there goes the second, loose forehand from Alcaraz who kicks the ball away in frustration. Deuce.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *4-3 Alcaraz

19:08 , Matt Verri

A huge ovation for Alcaraz as he steps up to serve.

He’s come back from worse positions than this, but it’s not looking great for Alcaraz. Backhand flies long to start the game.

He then has Sinner out of position, but guides a forehand wide. 30-30.

Crucial rally, one that both seem to have sent shots long in, but eventually Sinner finds the net.

Superb serve and volley - Alcaraz still in this!

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 4-2* Alcaraz

19:04 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz sends a routine forehand into the net. At the stage where he can’t really afford those.

Or that - weak return floats long. Sinner 40-15 up and hasn’t really had to do anything in this game.

Getting a bit of luck, too. Net cord gives him the hold.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *3-2 Alcaraz

18:58 , Matt Verri

If Alcaraz can find a break, it will get very loud very quickly. Crowd trying their best to get behind the defending champion.

Big cheer as he produces a nice drop shot. Didn’t need to be that good, Sinner was near enough in the first row with the spectators. 40-0.

But 40-0 becomes 40-15... becomes 40-30. Sinner with the backhand pass down the line.

Deuce! Backhand netted from Alcaraz and this has become very awkward for him. Has to hold here.

And he does. Sinner can’t make the pass this time and Alcaraz stays in touch.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 3-1* Alcaraz

18:53 , Matt Verri

It’s all Sinner now. Alcaraz seems pretty flat.

He’s on the run again, but can only watch as Sinner hammers the latest in a long line of backhand winners.

Alcaraz sends a backhand of his own long and it’s a hold to love.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *2-1 Alcaraz

18:50 , Matt Verri

Double fault - that’s seven in the match for Alcaraz.

Sinner could take a huge step towards victory here. Great return, Alcaraz rushed and can’t get it back in play. 15-30.

That’s too good! Brilliant backhand winner down the line, break point Sinner.

And so is that! Carbon copy as Sinner breaks. Is that the decisive blow in this final?

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 1-1* Alcaraz

18:46 , Matt Verri

Good hands. Alcaraz shanks a return over his own shoulder, caught one-handed by his coach in the box above him.

That seems to be the only positive news for the Alcaraz camp in this game, succession of service winners to get Sinner to 40-0.

He then confidently puts away the volley to hold to love.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 *0-1 Alcaraz

18:43 , Matt Verri

Drop shot hasn’t really worked for Alcaraz. Either he’s dumped it in the net or Sinner has run it down.

Centre Court crowd very much behind the Spaniard, they want this to go the distance. Big cheer as he fires a forehand winner down the line.

And Alcaraz then lets out a ‘vamos’ cry as he holds to start this set.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 6-4 Alcaraz

18:38 , Matt Verri

Service winner to kick things off for Sinner - but he follows it with a double fault. 15-15.

Alcaraz just a spectator in this game at the moment. Now an ace from Sinner, 30-15 and a couple of points away.

That’s then rock solid, Alcaraz sends up a tricky lob but the smash is put away. Two set points for Sinner!

Needs only one! He’s a set away from being crowned Wimbledon champion.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 *5-4 Alcaraz

18:35 , Matt Verri

Short ball for Sinner to attack, forehand crunched deep and he then does just about enough with the smash. That’s 15-30 - now would be a pretty good time to break.

Also a pretty good time for that ace from Alcaraz. 30-30.

Great shot! Sinner whips a forehand winner past Alcaraz and it brings up a break point.

TAKES IT. Forehand too good again, Alcaraz falls over as he gets it back in play but Sinner can’t miss with the volley.

He will serve for the set.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 4-4* Alcaraz

18:30 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz gets two or three more balls back in play than most would in the first point of this game, but Sinner eventually has a simple enough overhead smash.

He then clips the very, very, very outside of the line after getting to the latest Alcaraz drop shot.

Sinner gets to this one too, but can only watch with the rest of us as the Alcaraz lob then sails perfectly over his head. 30-30.

Second serve ace! Ridiculously brave at this stage in the set and match. Sinner follows it up with a first serve ace, bit boring by comparison.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 *3-4 Alcaraz

18:24 , Matt Verri

Doesn’t look like we’ll be getting similar drama in this game.

Alcaraz serving his way to a comfortable hold, an ace and then a service winner off the second serve.

And then another ace to wrap up the hold.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 3-3* Alcaraz

18:22 , Matt Verri

Fairly wild forehand from Sinner. Had a short ball to put away, Alcaraz guessed correctly but didn’t have to do anything as it flies long and wide.

Not so damaging, though, when it’s sandwiched by two aces.

Louder grunt tells you Alcaraz put more on that forehand it draws the mistake from Sinner. 30-30 once again in this set, another pivotal point.

Forehand behind the first serve does the job for Sinner... but it’s deuce after a ridiculous point!

Sinner hits the volley at the net between his legs - because why not - Alcaraz goes for the lob and the Italian sends the smash juuuuust wide.

Sinner holds. He’s had four aces in the match, three were in that game.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 *2-3 Alcaraz

18:16 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz goes for the drop shot, but the fact he’s already turned away and started walking to his towel by the time it hits the net tells you all need to know.

He’s then off-balance as he sends a forehand wide. 30-30. Alcaraz seems to be under pressure on every service game.

But again he comes through it, Sinner going for the lines and not quite getting it right.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 2-2* Alcaraz

18:11 , Matt Verri

First serve from Sinner catches the line and skids on Alcaraz. Sinner first with a fist pump, then a hand up in apology, then straight back to a fist pump.

At 40-0 Alcaraz decides he might as well go for it - can’t quite make the forehand down the line on the run.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 *1-2 Alcaraz

18:08 , Matt Verri

Real chance for Sinner there to get 0-30.

He hammers a return back at Alcaraz, who does well to drop the volley over as softly as he does. Sinner gets there in plenty of time, but nets the attempted pass.

30-30 as they trade unforced errors. Crucial point coming up.

Alcaraz wins it, putting away the forehand, before Sinner sends a return just long.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 1-1* Alcaraz

18:04 , Matt Verri

Great angle on the forehand from Alcaraz, has Sinner running side-to-side and eventually forces the error.

Glad I told you Sinner hasn’t had any aces yet - there’s one. Alcaraz barely moves for it.

After 22 games of this final, Alcaraz has won 68 points and Sinner has 67. Quite tight, I’d say.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 *0-1 Alcaraz

18:00 , Matt Verri

No early break for Sinner this time.

An 11th ace of the match for Alcaraz gives him a hold. Sinner hasn’t had any yet.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 0-0* Alcaraz

17:58 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz started the second set slowly and he’s not exactly flown out of the blocks in the third.

Double fault and that’s 0-30. Another double fault then gives Sinner a couple of break points!

More like it from Alcaraz, 137mph ace saves the first of them. Forehand then does the damage next point to get him to deuce.

Sinner 4-6 6-4 Alcaraz

17:53 , Matt Verri

Special start to the game from Sinner, huge roar from Centre Court!

Defends brilliantly behind the baseline to somehow stay in the point and then charges forward to get to the drop shot and make the backhand pass.

Then slaps a flat backhand crosscourt that a sliding Alcaraz can’t get back. 30-15.

Sinner has stepped it up another level in this game - sensational forehand down the line to bring up two set points!

And then maybe the best point of all of them to seal the set, on the run and crunches yet another forehand winner.

An INSANE game from Sinner to level this match!

Sinner 4-6 *5-4 Alcaraz

17:47 , Matt Verri

First serve ace... followed by a second serve ace. And then another first serve that kisses the line, Sinner at least gets a bit of racket on it but that’s all he can do. 40-0.

Third ace of the game gives Alcaraz the hold. Over to Sinner to serve for the set.

Sinner 4-6 5-3* Alcaraz

17:45 , Matt Verri

It was at this point in the first set that Sinner was broken and then didn’t win another game.

Things are looking better here, as he strolls up to the net and puts the forehand away. 30-0.

Alcaraz goes long with the backhand, as Sinner wraps up a rapid hold to love. A game away from levelling this final up.

Sinner 4-6 *4-3 Alcaraz

17:41 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz swings an ace out wide and Sinner has a long glare and a few words to his box from the other side of the court. Not sure that was their fault.

Another ace follows, before the Italian makes the backhand winner to briefly stay in the game.

Maybe not briefly, big forehand sets up the next point and gets him to 40-30.

Double fault from Alcaraz! 40-0 to deuce in a hurry and Sinner is a couple of points away from serving for the set.

Back-to-back double faults - Alcaraz making a mess of this game.

Second serve for Sinner to attack, backhand into the net. Throws his head back in frustration.

139mph ace. 136mph unreturned serve. Hold.

Sinner 4-6 4-2* Alcaraz

17:36 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz now back on the side of the court where the two boxes are and he’s looking up at his team a fair bit. Getting plenty of instructions.

Both making the other run in this point, before Sinner sends a fairly routine forehand long. 15-30 and a bit of added pressure.

Deals with it brilliantly. Two first serves that Alcaraz can do nothing with. 40-30.

Net cord then leaves Alcaraz stranded. Sinner does his best of impression of someone who is apologetic.

Sinner 4-6 *3-2 Alcaraz

17:31 , Matt Verri

We’ve had plenty of competitive games but this looks like being an Alcaraz cruise to a hold.

Swinging ace out wide, swiftly gets him 40-0 up.

Another big first serve, another unreturned big first serve. Hold to love.

Sinner 4-6 3-1* Alcaraz

17:29 , Matt Verri

Drop shot battle at the net is won by Sinner. Alcaraz with a smile on his face as the Italian wrong-foots him with the backhand down the line.

Body serve tucks up Alcaraz and it’s another ‘come on’ shout from Sinner. Relief for him to come through that game.

Sinner 4-6 *2-1 Alcaraz

17:27 , Matt Verri

Taking it in turn to exchange forehand errors in this game.

And Sinner then puts himself under more pressure, sliding up to the net and failing to make the volley with Alcaraz out of position. 30-30.

Sinner looks to have won game point, but Alcaraz’s shot catches the outside of the line and the Italian doesn’t get it back. Gestures angrily to his box - definitely more emotion from Sinner than we’re used to seeing. Deuce.

Sinner has advantage - and then a champagne bottle gets popped open and the cork lands about two feet away from Sinner. He have done with that, I’d imagine.

Especially when after that delay he’s then pegged back to deuce.

How Alcaraz won the first set

17:20 , Matt Verri

Doesn’t get much better than this.

Nothing more Sinner could do with the forehand down the line. Alcaraz had no business responding with that.

Sinner 4-6 *2-1 Alcaraz

17:19 , Matt Verri

Sinner firmly on the charge now. Alcaraz scrambling behind the baseline, can’t make that forehand. 0-30.

Another crazy good point, Alcaraz toying with Sinner at the net. Italian does well to even get to the volley from Alcaraz, but he can’t flick it back in play.

Sinner has a chance next point to make the backhand down the line and bring up two break points - completely mishits it. Points down at the ground, always good to have something to blame. 30-30.

Two perfect first serves later and Alcaraz has his hold.

Sinner 4-6 2-0* Alcaraz

17:16 , Matt Verri

Another one for the highlights package. Alcaraz whips a perfect forehand down the line past the approaching Sinner.

And you can add this one too, backhand crosscourt this time from Alcaraz. Nobody better to watch than him.

Alcaraz has a break point now! Sinner brings him forward with the drop shot, makes the right decision with the pass back behind Alcaraz... but sends it wide. Hands on hips in bemusement at that miss.

Big first serve saves it. Huge shout of ‘let’s go’ from Sinner - might be the first bit of emotion he’s shown mid-match all fortnight.

And Sinner then swivels to the crowd and pumps his first after battling to that hold.

Sinner 4-6 *1-0 Alcaraz

17:10 , Matt Verri

Double fault from Alcaraz to start the set and then an unforced error. 0-30 and Sinner eyeing an immediate momentum swing.

Could well get it - three break points coming up!

First goes with a tame return into the net. Barely reached the net, let alone clear it.

And the second. Another Alcaraz drop shot, another Sinner slip.

But the Italian does get the break! Alcaraz loops a forehand long and Sinner makes the perfect start to the set.

Sinner 4-6 Alcaraz

17:04 , Matt Verri

Double fault!

What a time for that from Sinner. A second set point for Alcaraz.

STUNNING!

Well that’s absurd. Sinner with a monstrous forehand down the line, that should be the point... but Alcaraz has somehow got himself into a position at full stretch to flick it back over!

Extraordinary way to take the first set.

Sinner *4-5 Alcaraz

17:02 , Matt Verri

Sinner a bit rattled? Misses a simple backhand (by his standards, not mine) and that increases the pressure on him.

Alcaraz goes for the backhand winner down the line - just out.

That’s another bad miss from Sinner. Should be a routine serve and volley, but it’s a wild volley. Miles long. 30-30.

Alcaraz with the drop shot, Sinner slips... set point for the Spaniard!

Tame, tame return of the second serve into the net. Deuce.

Sinner *4-5 Alcaraz

16:57 , Matt Verri

Alcaraz in danger of throwing that good work away.

Double fault and Sinner has a chance to respond immediately at 15-30.

Italian has a second serve to look at too, but it’s such a good serve. Kicks up on Sinner and nothing he can really do with it.

140mph ace out wide to hold! Believe that’s the fastest serve of Alcaraz’s Grand Slam career.

Sinner was 4-2 up - he’s now 5-4 down. Serving to stay in this set.

Sinner 4-4* Alcaraz

16:53 , Matt Verri

Ridiculously good from Alcaraz. Up to the net, Sinner’s pass is dropped at his feet but he flicks over a stunning volley.

His box are on their feet next point. Gruelling rally, both hammering away from the baseline - Sinner blinks first. 15-30.

Two break points! Sinner loops a forehand long, Alcaraz with a couple of chances to get this back on serve. Spaniard has raised his level big time in this game.

Sinner nets the backhand... Alcaraz breaks!

Sinner *4-3 Alcaraz

16:48 , Matt Verri

Forehands are getting bigger and bigger from Alcaraz, stepping up the intensity. Problem is the only player in the world who can live with that is on the other side of the net.

Not a great drop shot here from the Spaniard, Sinner gets there in plenty of time... but flicks a backhand wide.

Comfortable hold for Alcaraz. Still in this set.

Sinner 4-2* Alcaraz

16:45 , Matt Verri

Sinner’s turn to throw in a couple of unforced errors. 30-30 and the ‘vamos Carlos’ shouts start again.

Big point... and a great point! Sinner with a brilliant drop shot, Alcaraz does superbly to flick it back but Sinner puts away the volley. Looked like Alcaraz briefly thought about throwing himself at it but decided otherwise.

Massive first serve out wide and Sinner consolidates the break.

Sinner *3-2 Alcaraz

16:39 , Matt Verri

Lovely drop volley from Sinner, doesn’t give Alcaraz any chance of running that down.

Italian then gets himself into an exchange of forehands from the baseline - goes for too much and sends it long. 15-15.

That’s too good! Sinner up to the net, Alcaraz hammers a perfect backhand pass down the line.

But Sinner gets to deuce, flat backhand of his own and Alcaraz left in a heap behind the baseline as he slides after it.

Break point! Alcaraz nets a fairly routine backhand, first chance for Sinner.

And he takes it! Another unforced error from Alcaraz - loose end to that game for him.

Sinner 2-2* Alcaraz

16:34 , Matt Verri

Twice a spectator in the first row has caught a ball - twice they’ve been given a look to make it clear they won’t be keeping that.

Neither player has got particularly close to a break yet. Hard enough getting into a rally at the moment.

Sinner has a hold to love to level up this first set again.

Sinner *1-2 Alcaraz

16:30 , Matt Verri

First big forehand of the match from Alcaraz, no danger of that coming back.

Backs it up with a couple of first returns that Sinner can’t return, but then two loose Alcaraz forehands give the Italian a bit of hope in this game.

And that is extinguished immediately. 139mph right at Sinner who was trying to get out of the way as much as return it.

Sinner 1-1* Alcaraz

16:26 , Matt Verri

Wouldn’t say either has fully found their range yet from the baseline, unforced errors from both.

Sinner thunders down an ace out wide, but then sends a forehand long. 40-30 and a bit of work to do to get out of this game.

Easy work, as it turns out. First serve is too good for Alcaraz at full stretch.

Sinner *0-1 Alcaraz

16:22 , Matt Verri

136mph ace down the T to kick things off. That plays.

Confident start from Alcaraz, couple of cheap points on serve. Sinner sends a backhand long and it’s a routine hold to love for the defending champion.

16:18 , Matt Verri

End of warm-ups. It’s time.

Jannik Sinner won the toss and has asked (or told) Carlos Alcaraz to serve first.

Here we go

16:12 , Matt Verri

First standing ovation of the afternoon as Sinner and Alcaraz stroll out into the Centre Court sunshine.

Sinner again with the compression sleeve on his elbow, but he’s repeatedly insisted that is nothing to worry about.

Not long now!

16:07 , Matt Verri

Five minutes to go until the players walk out. Centre Court pretty much full now in anticipation.

Expecting a slightly more competitive match than we had with the 6-0 6-0 women’s singles final yesterday...

Advantage Alcaraz?

16:00 , Matt Verri

Jannik Sinner is incredibly mentally strong, but you do wonder what could happen if this gets tight again.

After losing the last five matches against Alcaraz, including when having three championship points in Paris last month, there would surely be some doubt in his mind if this did go to a deciding set.

Could be a slight mental edge for Alcaraz, believing he can beat Sinner from any position.

15:55 , Matt Verri

Fairly windy on Centre Court, so it’s not feeling too hot. Certainly not as warm as it’s been for a fair chunk of this fortnight.

Then again, that is an opinion given very much from the shade...

Bit longer to wait...

15:48 , Matt Verri

It’s been confirmed that Sinner and Alcaraz will walk out for the men’s singles final at 4:10pm, so ten minutes later than initially scheduled.

If this does turn into another five-set epic between the two of them, light could become a problem this evening and the roof would potentially be needed.

Sinner: Can't compare us to 'Big Three'

15:41 , Matt Verri

After a Golden Era for men’s tennis involving the likes of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, it was put to Jannik Sinner that he and Carlos Alcaraz are now creating history of their own.

The pair have shared the last six Grand Slams between them and that will become seven this afternoon, but Sinner insists it is too soon for this to be viewed as their era.

“No name yet because you cannot compare what the Big Three did for 15-plus years.

“Six Grand Slams are one and a half years. It's not that big yet.

Of course, we find ourself, again, in this position. This is the second consecutive Grand Slam that we are in the final and playing each other, which is great from my side. I believe it's good for the sport.

“The more rivalries we have from now on, the better it is, because people want to see young player going against each other.

“I'm happy to be in that position, but let's see in the future. If we can make that happen for the next three, four years, then people can think about. Let's see.”

(London Standard)

Men's singles final next up!

Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova have just sealed a three-set win in the women’s doubles final!

Looks like that has wrapped up just about in time for the ceremony to take place and the men’s singles final to get underway as planned at 4pm.

It’s all worked out...

Sinner back on the biggest stage

This is a fourth straight Grand Slam final for Jannik Sinner.

He was beaten by Alcaraz in Paris last month, but the Italian is the reigning Australian Open and US Open champion.

Win this afternoon and Sinner would be those championship points at Roland Garros away from holding all four Grand Slams at the same time.

Alcaraz: 2022 match not important

15:14 , Matt Verri

Carlos Alcaraz has won the last five matches between these two, but Jannik Sinner does have good memories at Wimbledon.

They have played once at SW19 and Sinner came out on top in four sets in the last-16 in 2022. Alcaraz, unsurprisingly, has no plans to watch that one again.

“Yeah, I remember that match, but it was three years ago,” the Spaniard said.

“We are completely different player on grass, but in all surfaces. I'm pretty sure that it's going to be different.

“I just see Jannik playing a great tennis on grass. I said many times that the movement on grass is the hardest things to get and the most important things, at least for me.

“And the movement that Jannik has on grass is unbelievable. He's sliding like he's playing on clay from both legs. It's just unbelievable.“So it's going to be an interesting one. I'm not going to watch the match in 2022 because, as I said, we are just completely different players.”

Delay to start time?

The new 4pm start time could prove to be a bit problematic.

The women’s doubles final is in the early stages of a third set, so it looks like there could be at least 30 minutes left in that match.

With the ceremony then to follow, it could get very tight for Alcaraz and Sinner to walk out at 4pm.

Sinner: No concerns over elbow

14:56 , Matt Verri

Jannik Sinner was again wearing an elbow compression sleeve during his semi-final win over Novak Djokovic.

He did so against Ben Shelton too, having picked up an elbow issue during that dramatic match against Grigor Dimitrov.

However, speaking after beating Djokovic, Sinner provided a positive update on the situation.

He said: “No issue for Sunday. As I said already after Ben, there are no excuses. I think we are handling this small problem at the moment very well.

“I was much more concerned against Ben's match in the quarters. Today I felt quite good already. The warm-up this morning was good, so no concerns.”

How Sinner got here

14:48 , Matt Verri

It’s been straight sets win all the way for Jannik Sinner... aside for one notable exception.

The world number was two sets down against Grigor Dimitrov and in huge trouble in that last-16 match, only for the 19th seed to suffer a pectoral injury when serving that forced him to retire.

Sinner has made the most of that reprieve, getting the better of Ben Shelton and then thrashing Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

How Alcaraz got here

It’s not exactly been an easy ride through to the final for Carlos Alcaraz, who has drops in level in nearly all of his matches.

He was taken to five sets by Fabio Fognini in the first round, while Jan-Lennard Struff and Andrey Rublev then also picked up sets against him.

Alcaraz beat Cameron Norrie in the quarter-finals and got past Taylor Fritz on Friday in four sets to reach a third consecutive Wimbledon final.

Sinner: I've moved on from French Open final

14:31 , Matt Verri

Jannik Sinner’s press conference after his semi-final win was unsurprisingly full of questions on a similar theme.

How much is that French Open final defeat to Carlos Alcaraz still in his mind?

“I think if it would be a lot in my head, I would not be in the situation to play a final again, I guess,” Sinner said with a smile.“I'm very happy to share once again the court with Carlos. It's going to be difficult, I know that. But I'm looking forward to it, no?

“I try always to put myself in these kind of situations what I really love. Sundays on every tournament are very special.”

Last time they met...

14:22 , Matt Verri

Jannik Sinner had three championships points... but it was Carlos Alcaraz who won a remarkable French Open final last month.

Five sets, five hours and 29 minutes. A truly incredible match between the two best players in the world.

Anything like that this afternoon and we’re in for a very special showdown on Centre Court.

Packed out!

14:14 , Matt Verri

Court 14 was a very popular place to be earlier today.

Carlos Alcaraz had his practice session on the outside court and there were plenty there to watch him.

Some work needed on the catching front from some of those in attendance...

Timings change for finals

14:05 , Matt Verri

We’re used to the men’s and women’s finals starting at 2pm, but it’s all change this year.

As was the case with Swiatek’s win over Anisimova yesterday, the action will kick off at 4pm.

It means the women’s doubles finals is currently being played on Centre Court, rather than taking place after.

AELTC Sally Bolton explained: “We have adjusted the provisional schedule for the final weekend of The Championships with the ambition of improving the experience for all involved.

“The doubles players competing in the finals will have increased certainty over their schedule and fans will enjoy each day’s play as it builds towards the crescendo of the ladies’ and gentlemen’s singles finals, with our champions being crowned in front of the largest possible worldwide audience.”

Women's final recap

14:00 , Matt Verri

Don’t think it’s too brave a prediction to suggest that today’s match might be slightly more competitive than we saw in the women’s final yesterday.

It could not have been much more than 30 metres’ distance between them, but they felt worlds apart.

While Iga Swiatek was clambering up the rows of seats towards her box to celebrate her maiden Wimbledon title, Amanda Anisimova sat slumped in her chair, a towel over her face, desperate for the pristine green of Centre Court to just swallow her up after suffering the scarring ignominy of losing a Grand Slam final 6-0 6-0.

Right from the off, when she went 0-40 down and was broken on serve in the very first service game, the atmosphere was decidedly eery.

When would she overcome her stage fright and land a blow on Swiatek? The answer never came. This will always be remembered as the Wimbledon final over in 57 minutes.

Standard Sport prediction

13:51 , Matt Verri

So tough to predict. Can we leave it at that?

Alcaraz is on a 20-match winning run at Wimbledon and is looking to win a third title in a row, and he has dominated the recent head-to-head against Sinner.

But the Italian has enjoyed these dry, faster courts and has looked superb over the past fortnight, except for that fortunate win over the injured Grigor Dimitrov.

There is very little to split them, but Sinner has been the more consistent. We’re going for him to win a first Wimbledon title.

Sinner to win in four sets.
