Emma Raducanu vs Marketa Vondrousova LIVE!
Emma Raducanu produced a statement performance to brush aside Marketa Vondrousova and set up a showdown with world number one Aryna Sabalenka. This was supposed to be a stern test for the British number one, against a player in Vondrousova who won the Wimbledon title only two years ago.
But Raducanu was comfortably on top from the off, aggressive with the groundstrokes and largely dominant behind her serve in a 6-3 6-3 win on Centre Court. This was a superb win to reach the third round but she now faces the ultimate test against Sabalenka, who has made it to at least the quarter-finals in every Grand Slam she has played since the 2022 French Open.
"She is number one in the world right now, so dominant on the tour and has won literally everything so and it is going to be a really difficult match,” Raducanu said. “I'm just so happy with how I performed and all I can do is control my side of the court as best as possible. When you play an opponent like her you know you have to play well so I guess there is no pressure on me at all in the next round!"

Match point! Vondrousova spending nearly every point scrambling behind the baseline, just hasn’t been able to get on top at all.
Takes it!
Sensational performance from Raducanu, who absolutely thrashes the 2023 champion.
Raducanu 6-3 5-3* Vondrousova
19:44 , Matt VerriAll much more routine for Raducanu on serve compared to Vondrousova.
Another first serve proves too good, 30-0.
Backs it up with a superb point, dropping a slice at the feet of the approaching Vondrousova and then whipping a forehand past her.
Massive forehand seals a hold to love. One game away.
Raducanu 6-3 *4-3 Vondrousova
19:41 , Matt VerriBig smile on the face of Raducanu, who is nearly in the stands as she somehow retrieves a couple of smashes from Vondrousova. Can’t quite get the third back.
Does enough with the backhand pass to force the mistake from Vondrousova, volley flies long.
Vondrousova might want to spend some time practicing her smashes. Raducanu gets another one back in play, and is swiftly on the front foot with a backhand winner. Deuce.
Vondrousova, eventually, gets the hold. Stays within touch.
Raducanu 6-3 4-2* Vondrousova
19:36 , Matt VerriRaducanu three holds away from booking her place in the third round.
Cruising towards one of those, couple of first serves put her in control... and she then fires in an ace down the T.
Rapid hold.
Raducanu 6-3 *3-2 Vondrousova
19:32 , Matt VerriVondrousova under pressure in every service game.
Has to pull out a ridiculously good crosscourt pass to win the point, after Raducanu didn’t do quite enough with the smash.
But the Briton has another chance at 30-30, Vondrousova with a poor slice into the net.
Brilliant return, Vondrousova can only watch that flash past her. Break point Raducanu.
Timely first serve gets Vondrousova to deuce, just caught the line.
Another break point coming up for Raducanu, playing so well. She thinks she has it - but the return is out. By about an inch, the hawk-eye replay shows.
They then take it in turns to deliver perfect drop shots, before Vondrousova finally drags herself to a hold. She needed that.
Raducanu 6-3 3-1* Vondrousova
19:25 , Matt VerriAwkward drop shot from Vondrousova, Raducanu gets there but her sliced response floats long.
That’s also long and now 15-40 - Raducanu again under pressure straight after breaking.
First break point saved, and Vondrousova can’t take the second either. Tried to find the line with the forehand but just wide. Deuce.
Forehand gets Raducanu out of trouble, been strong on that wing all match. Gutsy hold.
Raducanu 6-3 *2-1 Vondrousova
19:19 , Matt VerriAnother deep return, Vondrousova can’t get it back. Break point once more.
And this one she takes!
Vondrousova did well to hang in the point as long as she did, but Raducanu was dominating it and the pressure eventually tells.
She is a set and a break up.
Raducanu 6-3 1-1* Vondrousova
19:18 , Matt VerriThere’s been lots of aggression, but Raducanu tries to get cute with the drop shot. Can’t quite find the angle.
Vondrousova finds the next point, 30-30. Biiig point coming up.
And Raducanu wins it, break point. Chance to take real control of this match now.
Goes for a backhand down the line on the run, gets it all wrong. Deuce.
Turning into a real battle of the game, deuce for a third time. Could be a crucial one come the end of the match.
Great return and Raducanu earns herself another break point. Net cord... lands just on her side of the court. Inches away from breaking, but it’s back to deuce.
Raducanu 6-3 1-1* Vondrousova
19:12 , Matt VerriVondrousova’s slice causing problems when she gets enough depth on it, skids off the baseline. Nothing Raducanu can do about that one.
Long baseline exchange, Raducanu going for more and more with the forehand... forces the mistake.
She spoke about how aggressive she was when beating Vondrousova in 2021 here - more of the same so far.
Confident hold, been an impressive display. Still a long way to go...
Raducanu 6-3 *0-1 Vondrousova
19:08 , Matt VerriOn the charge!
Clean winner from Raducanu and she is eyeing up a fast start to this set, 0-30. Again.
But two returns then fly long to ease the pressure on Vondrousova.
Raducanu then goes for a bit of a strange sliced return... lands miles long.
Opening hold for Vondrousova.
Raducanu 6-3 Vondrousova
19:04 , Matt VerriMuch more confident service game from Raducanu.
Races 40-0 up, three chances to wrap up this first set.
She’s going to need all three, as Vondrousova makes the crosscourt pass to get back to 40-30.
But Raducanu does get the job done, Vondrousova blinks first in the rally.
First set to the British No1!
Raducanu *5-3 Vondrousova
19:00 , Matt VerriFeel like we’ve been here before.
Vondrousova with a forehand low into the net and once again we’re at 0-30.
Big shout of ‘come on’ from Raducanu as she watches the ball land long, she’s got two break points.
She did have two break points. Vondrousova swiftly saves them both.
But Raducanu will have a third opportunity, double fault at a terrible time from the former champion.
That makes up for the double fault - ace down the T. Deuce again.
And that cancels out the ace, another double fault. Keeping up?
Raducanu breaks! Converts this break point and she’ll serve for the set.
Raducanu 4-3* Vondrousova
18:54 , Matt VerriSuperb from Vondrousova, somehow digs out a great lob and then puts away the forehand. Now it’s her chance, 0-30.
Ball then skids low on Raducanu, who shanks a forehand wide. Three break points for Vondrousova.
One down... and now a second saved by Raducanu after a confident smash. One to go.
But Vondrousova takes the third, her return landing bang on the baseline.
Back on serve.
Raducanu *4-2 Vondrousova
18:50 , Matt VerriHere we go. Murmurs around Centre as a double fault gives Raducanu a real opening at 0-30.
Two break points now, as the Raducanu forehand forces the mistake from Vondrousova.
SHOT! Brilliant backhand pass down the line and Raducanu has the break!
Raducanu 3-2* Vondrousova
18:47 , Matt VerriRaducanu starts walking after firing down what she thought was an ace - quick halt as the automated fault call comes.
Then looks up at her box as a forehand is called long - can’t challenge it so not much discussions to be had.
Still a routine hold as Vondrousova hits a routine forehand into the net.
Both been very solid on serve since I said there would be break opportunities...
Raducanu *2-2 Vondrousova
18:43 , Matt VerriDoesn’t feel like either player is going to be particularly dominant on serve, both will get chances.
Nod there, though, from Raducanu as Vondrousova slaps a forehand winner down the line.
That deserves more than a nod - perfect drop shot from Vondrousova and Raducanu wisely gives up on that early.
Raducanu 2-1* Vondrousova
18:39 , Matt VerriVondrousova not taking many risks, slicing it back and waiting for a mistake... which comes as Raducanu dumps a forehand into the net.
Gets slightly fortunate with a net cord next point, after running down another drop shot. 30-30.
Raducanu puts away the overhead at the net, but a forehand then flies long. Deuce and the first bit of pressure on her serve.
Good aggressive point from the back of the court from Raducanu, forces the mistake. Gets her box on their feet.
And it’s a battling hold, had to work for that.
Raducanu *1-1 Vondrousova
18:33 , Matt VerriEarly chance at 0-30 for Raducanu, but she follows it with a couple of poor groundstrokes.
She then can’t get the drop shot back in play, before a loose backhand gives Vondrousova a hold to 30.
Raducanu 1-0* Vondrousova
18:29 , Matt VerriGood start this from Raducanu.
She comfortably gets to the Vondrousova drop shot and slices it back deep into the court, and the Czech can’t get it back.
Clean winner down the line from Vondrousova gets her on the board. And that forehand is too good as well - 40-30.
Timely first serve and Raducanu is up and running.
Right then, warm-ups done. Raducanu will serve first.
She’s won’t have to worry about the sun when serving at this end, so should be a bit more of an advantage in this first game.
Here we go!
18:19 , Matt VerriAt long, long last, at least 60 seconds later than advertised, Raducanu and Vondrousova stride out onto Centre Court.
Sun will be a bit awkward, with one side of the court still covered in it but the other now in the shade.
Unacceptable.
6:18pm and no sign of them. Call it off.
Start time confirmed
18:08 , Matt VerriGot to run exactly to the minute, of course.
So Emma Raducanu and Marketa Vondrousova will walk out onto Centre Court at 6:17pm.
Not a second later, I hope.
Next up!
18:00 , Matt VerriCarlos Alcaraz has completed a 6-1 6-4 6-4 win over Oliver Tarvet.
Huge ovation for the Briton as he walks off Centre Court, did himself proud this afternoon.
In fact he’s still there - signing every autograph he can on his way off.
Raducanu relishing another Vondrousova clash
17:52 , Matt VerriEmma Raducanu played Marketa Vondrousova in the second round at Wimbledon in 2021, winning comfortably.
That was the tournament in which she announced herself on the big stage... and then went and stormed to the US Open title a few weeks later. Not a bad summer.
After her first-round win over Mimi Xu on Monday, Raducanu was asked about that match with Vondrousova.
Yeah, I remember I played really good tennis,” she said.
“I remember I played one of the best matches I've played. Was so aggressive, took the ball on.
“Obviously since she's won the Wimbledon title and had a lot more success on grass.
“I remember that was, yeah, a big change, a big turning point for me. I'm looking forward, again, to have the opportunity to be in the second round. I'm grateful forthat.”

Jinxed it
17:46 , Matt VerriMy apologies to the Tarvet camp.
He’s just been broken to love and Alcaraz is two games away from victory.
I’d suggest Raducanu might want to finish up that warm-up.
Not done yet!
17:43 , Matt VerriIt looked like Raducanu and Vondrousova would be on court very shortly, after Carlos Alcaraz broke in the third set against Oliver Tarvet.
But the Briton has just responded immediately to level it up at 3-3.
Could he take a set off the defending champion?

Day 3 order of play
17:37 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneWe’re approaching the latter stages of the third day at SW19, but there is still plenty to look forward to this afternoon, and going into this evening.
Around the grounds
17:30 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneOn Centre Court, Carlos Alcaraz, the men’s defending champion, is in a battle with the unseeded Brit Oliver Tarvet and he is on course to make round three.
The scoreline currently reads 1-6 4-6 2-1 in the Spaniard’s favour.
Earlier today, Cameron Norrie sprung a big surprise by beating Francis Tiafoe.

Raducanu's route to the final
17:25 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneHere Emma Raducanu's previous route to a maiden Wimbledon final, based on seedings.
3rd round: Aryna Sabalenka (1)
Last 16: Elina Svitolina (16)
Quarter-final: Madison Keys (6)
Semi-final: Qinwen Zheng (5)
Final: Coco Gauff (2)
However, with both Qinwen Zheng and Coco Gauff already out, Raducanu may fancy her chances of going all the way if she can get past Vondrousova today and then Sabalenka in round three.
Raducanu vs Vondrousova head-to-head record
17:15 , Tashan Deniran-AlleyneThis will be the second time that these two have faced off at Wimbledon and third overall.
Back in 2021, Raducanu overcame Vondrousova in straight sets but that remains her only win to date.
