Wimbledon 2025 LIVE!
Dan Evans will attempt a huge upset as he battles Novak Djokovic in a headline early clash on day four at Wimbledon. The British men’s No5 against the seven-time champion opens the action on Centre Court on Thursday afternoon, with Evans hoping to continue what has been a week of sizable shocks at the All England Club so far.
Evans has endured a torrid few years but gained a wildcard entry into the main draw in SW19 and eased past British rival Jay Clarke in straight sets on Tuesday to set up another high-profile meeting with Djokovic, who was made to work hard by world No41 Alexandre Muller. Evans has history of upsetting the 24-time Grand Slam winner, achieving the victory of his career in 2021 by toppling the then top-ranked Djokovic in straight sets in the last 16 of the Monte Carlo Masters on clay.
Djokovic remains one short of Roger Federer’s record of eight Championships and, at 38, is running out of time to equal the feat having admitted that he does not know if this will be his “last dance” at Wimbledon. Follow Evans vs Djokovic live below, with Standard Sport’s Dom Smith on Centre Court.

GAME, SET AND MATCH DJOKOVIC -- Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-6 Djokovic
15:25 , Dom SmithNovak Djokovic is into the third round as he takes the match 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 with a third-set bagel.
Evans thinks there might be hope when Djokovic uncharacteristically nets for 15-30, and even more so when a net clip from the Brit prompts Djokovic to fire into the tramlines and offers up two break points.
An ace second serve saves the first...
A shank from Evans sees Djokovic take it with his first match point. It’s all over for Britain’s Dan Evans as Djokovic progresses.
Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-5 Djokovic
15:20 , Dom SmithEvans moves into a 40-15 lead as Djokovic’s tweeny shot goes beyond the baseline.
Sun is now out in full show on Centre, a lovely day indeed. And Djokovic is hoping it’ll soon become even better.
He flicks a net winner into the open court for 40-30, and then volleys on approach to take yet another Evans service game to deuce.
And with a miss into the tramlines, the dye is cast for Evans. He is broken again and Djokovic will now serve for the match.
Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-4 Djokovic
15:14 , Dom SmithDjokovic looks to the turf in disgust after netting on approach with a shot he really ought to have got back over.
The 24-time Grand Slam winner twists his body and smashes a winner down the line for 40-15, and a second-serve ace gets the game won and makes it 4-0 in an utterly one-sided third set.
Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-3 Djokovic
15:11 , Dom SmithEvans gets himself to 40-15 on serve and there are loud cheers across Centre Court at that.
His slice pushes Djokovic to the back of the court, but the Serb hits a fine winner down the line to reduce the deficit in the game.
Eventually, Djokovic takes the game to deuce and is pushing for yet another break in a match that is more than beginning to get away from Evans.
Evans gets advantage as his opponent nets and there’s a little pump of the fists too. But then a fantastic return of serve from Djokovic, a winner. Wow.
And another one. Superb returning from Djokovic.
He does break. He simply isn’t to be denied.
Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-2 Djokovic
15:04 , Dom SmithIt’s proving a task that’s getting more and more difficult by the minute. As Evans returns a serve out of the perimetre it is 40-0 Djokovic, and an ace makes it game Djokovic yet again.
Evans simply has to hold with the next game...
Evans 3-6, 2-6, 0-1 Djokovic
15:01 , Dom SmithEvans is 30-15 up on serve when Djokovic slaps a fine winner away for 30-30.
We head to deuce.
Evans is break point down when his shot clips and the net and goes over, but Djokovic hits another winner and has an early break. Ominous.
GAME AND SECOND SET DJOKOVIC -- Evans 3-6, 2-6 Djokovic
14:55 , Dom SmithSuper stuff from Djokovic, who is just so, so dominant now. His fantastic serving gets him to 40-0 and then gets him over the line too as he takes the second set 6-2 with a double break and a skip and a jump.
Evans 3-6, 2-5 Djokovic
14:52 , Dom SmithEvans pops up a high ball at 15-0 which Djokovic volleys away with ease for 15-15. Then a simple net volley sees Evans move 30-15 up.
Ace. Lovely. That’ll do. 40-15 Evans.
Evans looks down on where he thinks a Djokovic return is going to land (he thinks out), but in fact it’s well in and 40-30, yet Evans hits an unreturned serve and that’s 2-5. Djokovic now serves for the second set...
Evans 3-6, 1-5 Djokovic
14:50 , Dom SmithAn unreturned serve from Djokovic gets him underway in his service game, the sixth of the second set.
It’s 40-0 when Djokovic jogs back on an Evans lob, knowing it will land beyond the baseline and it duly does.
A volley winner from Djokovic makes it 5-1 and you’d have pretty extraordinary odds on him mucking up the second set from here!
Evans 3-6, 1-4 Djokovic
14:46Excellent line winner from Djokovic, and that brings up 0-40 on the Evans serve. Just a sense here that the British player is beginning to exposes his ranking of 154 on Centre Court as Djokovic moves up a gear and grabs a break to love.
Evans 3-6, 1-3 Djokovic
14:45 , Dom SmithAnother simple hold of serve from Djokovic sees him move 3-1 ahead in the second set.
Evans 3-6, 1-2 Djokovic
14:42 , Dom SmithEvans wins one of the best rallies of the match so far, twisting a backhand winner past Djokovic in the direction from whence the Serb came.
That’s for 15-15, and the net rally isn’t half bad either! This is turning into some contest. Djokovic puts away at the net for 15-30 on his opponent’s serve.
Evans is then off balance when he hits a limp forehand reply into the net, and Djokovic has two break points now.
It’s aggressive from the Brit, but his net shot is missed. It’s a break of serve early in the second set...
Evans 3-6, 1-1 Djokovic
14:34 , Dom SmithEvans is 30-0 down on the Djokovic serve when he bypasses the Serb’s net approach with an excellent crosscourt winner which flies past Djokovic.
Then a humorous moment as Evans stays in a rally by popping up a sky-high return. It bounces in, but then Djokovic flattens his racket onto a scorching winner. Evans lets out a wry smile, knowing he’s playing some player. Game.
Evans 3-6, 1-0 Djokovic
14:30 , Dom SmithDjokovic looks hungry for more breaks now and is 15-30 up on Evans’s serve when... the Brit puts away a lovely net volley for 30-30. Fair play.
Evans is made of tough stuff and holds serve in the opening game of this second set.
GAME AND FIRST SET DJOKOVIC -- Evans 3-6 Djokovic
14:25 , Dom SmithDjokovic holds comfortably to love and takes the first set in 46 minutes. It was a good battling display from Evans, that, but he must come from behind if he’s to cause an upset now...
Evans 3-5 Djokovic
14:22 , Dom SmithA bit of a sliceathon with the second point of the Evans service game, and the Brit is tempted to come to the net. It’s NOT a good idea, though. He can’t get it over. 0-30.
A backhand volley from Evans than misses the line by the tightest of margins, and suddenly he’s facing two break points, the first of which is missed by Djokovic, again, just.
The second is saved too!
Then comes a stunning rally which ends with a fantastic line winner from the seven-time Wimbledon champion. Another break point to save, and this time he can’t. Djokovic breaks...
Evans 3-4 Djokovic
14:11 , Dom SmithDjokovic seems to be struggling with the sunlight being directly in his eyes as he serves, but it causes him no issues for 30-15 as he hits an ace onto the line.
Super rally then brings up 40-15 as a Djokovic lobby is taken on on the volley but Evans can only net.
Game.
Evans 3-3 Djokovic
14:08 , Dom SmithA little groan from the crowd as Evans hits a double fault with his first service of the game, and then it is quickly followed by another. 0-30 Djokovic.
Djokovic really pushed Evans on the next point, too, and earns himself three break points.
The first is wasted as the Serb goes long, but the second is saved in every sense of the word - excellent net work from Evans. And Evans gets all the way back as Djokovic nets again!
Unreturned save; advantage Evans.
And again. After three points lost, five in a row. Superb.
Evans 2-3 Djokovic
14:01 , Dom SmithWith a fine forehand winner, Djokovic gets himself to 40-15. He then confirms another hold of serve with an ace across Evans’s body. Three games to two, he leads - on serve.
Evans 2-2 Djokovic
13:58 , Dom SmithCorr... long game, which begins with the sun hidden behind a cloud and ends in full sunshine.
He takes the first point, too, with a lovely smash volley at the net. Then he forehands beyond the baseline (just). 15-15.
But an excellent point from the Brits follows, his slice right into the corner, and Djokovic’s return only sets up another stylish Evans smash.
A nod of the head in appreciation of the next point by Evans, though, as Djokovic finds a stunning forehand, passed winner.
Ace. 40-30.
But then a winner that’s just too good from Djokovic, deuce.
What follows is a bit of a marathon deuce, with Evans saving a number of break points. He holds!
Evans 1-2 Djokovic
13:45 , Dom SmithDjokovic follows a double fault up with an ace right down the T, as the chalk flies up.
Then a super net putaway from the world No6 for 40-15. Game Djokovic.
Evans 1-1 Djokovic
13:43 , Dom SmithThere’s a huge cheer for Evans as he fires in an ace on her first serve of the match, too, just as Djokovic did. And then another, for 30-0.
The first real rally of the match comes on the next point, when Evans eventually goes long.
Djokovic finds the net with the next shot, and that brings Evans a point away from an opening hold of serve. He can’t take the first, because he’s lobbed beautifully by Djokovic, who really has perfected that shot. It’s such a weapon for the Serb, knowing exactly how to land a lob by the baseline.
Game Evans, though.
Evans 0-1 Djokovic
13:39 , Dom SmithDjokovic gets the match underway with a couple of aces, followed by an unreturned serve, working up a 40-0 lead.
A lovely net approach and drop shot sees him hold to love, a peerless start from the Serb...
Here we go!
13:38 , Dom SmithThe match between Evans and Djokovic begins on Centre Court...
Two minutes...
13:35 , Dom SmithWarm-ups have two minutes left. Then we’ll be underway
The players are out
13:31 , Dom SmithThe warm-up will soon begin here on a sunny Centre Court!
Dan Evans route to second round
13:29 , Dom SmithEvans was in excellent form in the opening round, winning on Court 12 in straight sets against fellow Brit Jay Clarke. The scoreline in that one was 6-1, 7-5, 6-2, a match he described as “one of the top, top wins of my career”.
Djokovic route to second round
13:16 , Dom SmithDjokovic’s first-round match was a four-set victory over the unseeded Alexandre Muller of France.
The former world No1 was victorious by a scoreline of 6-1, 6-7(7-9), 6-2, 6-2 on Centre Court on Tuesday evening. He said he felt his “absolute worst” for 45 minutes of the match during which time he suffered from stomach pains.

Wimbledon order of play
13:07We’re onto Day Four of the Championships at Wimbledon, with Djokovic, Jack Draper, Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina all on court today.
Standard Sport prediction
12:57 , Dom Smith...That said, it is hard to look past Novak Djokovic today. The Serb was in fine form in the first round against Alexandre Muller, even if he did need four sets to ultimately make it past the Frenchman.
I feel Evans could push for a set this afternoon and may just get one of his own, perhaps with a late break or on a tiebreak, but Djokovic should prove too strong for the Englishman. We’ll see...
Standard Sport prediction: Djokovic to win, in four sets
Head to head (H2H) record
12:47 , Dom SmithAmazingly, Dan Evans has never lost to Djokovic, and that’s not because they’ve never played each other.
They met at Monte-Carlo on the Tour in 2021, when Evans came out on top in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5. How about that for a good omen?!
