Wimbledon 2025 ladies singles' draw: Emma Raducanu handed tough route as Brits dealt tricky ties

Defending champion: Barbora Krejcikova - (John Walton/PA Wire)

Emma Raducanu has been dealt a tough hand in the Wimbledon 2025 women’s singles draw.

The British no1 will face her compatriot Mimi Xu, a wildcard, in the opening round, but could face 2023 winner Marketa Vondrousova or 32nd seed McCartney Kessler in round two.

To compound that, Raducanu has been drawn in the top quarter of the draw, meaning that she could take on world no1 Aryna Sabalenka in the third round.

The British no2 Katie Boulter has also been given a tough draw against the ninth seed Paula Badosa, while 16-year-old wildcard Hannah Klugman takes on 29th seed Leylah Fernandez, who Raducanu beat in the 2021 US Open final.

Harriet Dart and Francesca Jones are the only Brits that can be truly happy with their fates, with Dart, the world no71, to play Damla Galfi, with Beatriz Haddad Maia and Amanda Anisimova the seeds either side of her.

Jones, down in the bottom quarter of the draw, will play Yuliia Starodubtseva in her opener, but should she come through that, an encounter with Raducanu’s Eastbourne conqueror Maya Joint or 19th seed Liudmila Samsonova awaits her.

Sonay Kartal is against 20th seed and former French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko, and could face the two-time Wimbledon finalist Ons Jabeur in round two.

A second-round meeting with Iga Swiatek could be Jodie Burrage’s reward should she come through the American Caty McNally., while Heather Watson plays 23rd seed Clara Tauson.

Top seed Sabalenka, who is searching for her first ever grass-court title at the All England Club, takes on the qualifier Carson Branstine in her first match.

The defending champion Barbora Krejcikova, seeded 17th this year, is given an eye-catching clash with Alexandra Eala, who exploded onto the scene at the Miami Open, defeating Ostapenko, Australian Open winner Madison Keys, Badosa, and Swiatek en route to the last four.

Swiatek faces debutant Polina Kudermetova in her first match, while Naomi Osaka continues her comeback against Australian qualifier Talia Gibson, although she could play Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng in round two.

Another noticeable draw is between wildcard Petra Kvitova, the two-time winner in south west London, and the 10th seed Emma Navarro.

French Open winner Coco Gauff arrives on the grass to play Dayana Yastremska, and she could face Viktoria Azarenka, twice a semi-finalist at Wimbledon, in the second round.
