Wimbledon 2019: Mixed fortunes for Britain's men as Dan Evans advances but Cameron Norrie bows out

It was a bittersweet day of action at Wimbledon for Britain's men as Dan Evans secured his passage into round three while Cameron Norrie bowed out.

The 29-year-old has shown drastic improvement since his return to the game 15 months ago following a drug ban.

And he continued his impressive run on grass with a straight sets victory over Nikoloz Basilashvili, winning 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 on No. 2 Court.

The Georgian, who had come from two sets down to beat James Ward in the first round, failed to produce anything like the kind of performance he needed until it was too late.

Evans, who squandered four match points, eventually got over the line following a mini-revival from the 18th seed.

But Norrie, 23, didn't enjoy the same kind of success after facing a stiff test against eighth seed Kei Nishikori.

The British no. 2 started well after snatching an early break but that only seemed to spur on the Japanese.

He went on to cancel out the break and seal the first set 6-4, before winning the second set by the same scoreline.

But Nishikori displayed his dominance, wrapping up the match in under two hours with a bagel in the third set, securing his place in the third round with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 victory.
