Wimbledon 2019: Andy Murray reveals plan for final fling at SW19

Andy Murray says he is now pain free after his hip operation and is confident of making a return to tennis.

The Scot had a resurfacing operation on his right hip four months ago and believes he is on the right track to make a competitive comeback.

The former world number one hasn't played a match since January, when he lost to Roberto Bautista Agut in the first round of the Australian Open.

Before the year's first Grand Slam, the Scot indicated his intention to play at Wimbledon this year but admitted the injury could force him into an early retirement.

Since his surgery, the 32-year-old has undergone months of rehab and now says he could feature in the doubles tournament at Wimbledon.

“I don’t have pain,” the three-time Major winner told The Times .

“I just need to see how good the hip can get really. I know from seeing what Bob Bryan has done that for doubles it will be absolutely fine.

“I will need to see from there how it would work singles-wise.”

“If I continue to feel good, then I will obviously give it a shot in singles and see what happens.”

Despite being confident he will be able to feature in the doubles at Wimbledon, Murray admits he will need more time before making a return to the singles game.

He added: “The thing I said before was that, if I wasn’t feeling good, there was more chance that I would play and then stop after Wimbledon.

"Whereas if it’s feeling good, it makes a bit more sense to give it time to make sure that it’s as good as possible before I try to play singles on it.

“Because I’ve only just started moving now, to get ready for the grass singles-wise I would have to be doing that for two and a half to three weeks before Queen’s, and that would only give me five or six days of building up to start running properly.

"It’s not enough time.”
