Dan Evans' bid to qualify after being refused a wild card came to an end with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat by Germany's Matthias Bachinger.
The 28-year-old was forced to come through pre-qualifying after Wimbledon decided not to give him direct entry into the tournament following his suspension for cocaine use.
The former British number two, who has been ranked inside the top 50, was not given a wild card by the All England Club as a matter of "principle" following his 12-month drugs ban, despite that ending over two months ago and him being the best performing British player since.
Evans won three matches last week to earn a wild card into qualifying and then came through his first match at Roehampton, but was well beaten by Bachinger.
The World No. 150 triumphed over Evans in one hour and 10 minutes.
Meanwhile it was a difficult day for Britain’s women as they were all eliminated in the first round.
15-year-old Emma Raducanu saw her take a set off Barbora Stefkova of the Czech Republic but she went on to lose 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.
Freya Christie lost 6-3 6-3 to Slovenian Tamara Zidansek while Russian Vitalia Diatchenko thrashed Sam Murray 6-1, 6-1.
American Nicole Gibbs won 6-4 6-4 against Francesca Jones and Romanian Alexandra Dulgheru eased to a 6-0 6-1 success over Holly Fischer.
Maia Lumsden lost 6-2 6-1 to India's Ankita Raina while Tara Moore, the current World No. 434, was beaten 6-2 6-4 by Irina Bara of Romania.
