Wiltshire civil engineering firm announces seven-figure investment in new equipment

A Wiltshire-based contracter that has secured work on civil engineering projects throughout the South West has announced a £1.1m investment in new equipment as part of its plans for growth.

MJ Church, headquartered in Marshfield near Chippenham, has acquired four new articulated dumper trucks to add to its fleet of 25 vehicles in response to growing demand from its customers.

The family-run business is currently undertaking earthworks for construction company Morgan Sindall on behalf of its client National Grid for the Dorset Visual Impact Provision Project.

The scheme aims to reduce the visual impact of overhead power lines in the Dorset AONB nature reserve.

The company, which also offers waste management services, is the main contractor on a £17.5m upgrade of junction 15 of the M4 motorway.

Highways England is working with Swindon Borough Council, Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership and developers Persimmon and Redrow on the project.

The seven-figure investment was facilitated by a loan from Lloyds Bank, with MJ Church’s managing director Ben Staff praising the bank for allowing the company to continue its growth ambitions and to “play our part in the region’s economic recovery” following the pandemic.

Mr Staff said: “We remain committed to maintaining a modern, tech-enabled fleet of vehicles to allow us to deliver best-in-class services to our customers across our wide-range of service areas.

“We’re constantly looking for ways to enhance our technology and the availability of first-class equipment - this investment does just that.”

Jon Szabo, relationship director at Lloyds Bank, added: “Ben and the team have been a long-standing client of Lloyds Bank and we’re proud to have been able to support them in the latest stage of their growth plans.

“MJ Church is a dynamic business offering a diverse range of services from skip hire and waste collection through to multi-million-pound civil engineering services.

"Adding the new vehicles to its fleet will allow the business to continue to operate at the very top of its game.”

Established in 1974, the business currently has more than 400 staff and operates on sites across Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire.
