Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory actress Denise Nickerson dies

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory actress Denise Nickerson has died aged 62.

The film star was best known for playing Violet Beauregard in the 1971 classic.

Denise was rushed to hospital earlier this week as she was suffering from pneumonia.

On Wednesday (July 10) her family posted a concerning message reading: "It's now just a matter of time before Denise passes.

"Her son, Josh, and his wife are at the hospital with Denise, and have started a GoFundMe to honor Denise's last wishes of being cremated, and her ashes turned into glass artwork."

They have now told TMZ.com that she died in hospital late on Wednesday night.

They then simply stated in another Facebook post: "She's gone."

Denise suffered a stroke in June 2018 and had been struggling with ill health since.

She was just 14 when she starred in the children's film lead by Gene Wilder.

Denis starred in many TV shows during the seventies including Flipper and The Brady Bunch.
