Willy Sagnol 'will apply for Celtic job' as former Bordeaux boss enters the running

Willy Sagnol is set to apply for the Celtic job - according to a report.

The 42-year-old has managed Ligue 1 side Bordeaux and served as interim Bayern Munich boss in 2017 - shortly before they defeated the Hoops 3-0 at the Allianz.

He left the club when Jupp Heynckes returned to the club but is keen to manage in the UK and has displayed an interest in becoming Brendan Rodgers' permanent successor.

Interim gaffer Neil Lennon remains favourite to re-take the post he left in 2013 but no decision has yet been made over a long-term appointment.

And now, speaking to The Scottish Sun , Sagnol's representative Alex McDonald insists he will make his case to become Celtic boss.

He said: "Willy is definitely interested in the Celtic job and will apply in the summer.”

Sagnol served as France U-21 manager before joining Bordeaux in 2014, having enjoyed a distinguished playing career.

He won five Bundesliga titles with Bayern and one Champions League with the Bavarian giants.

The likes of Roberto Martinez and Andre Villas-Boas have also been linked with the role but the former has been ruled out completely by his agent.

Villas-Boas camp initially appeared to pour cold water on a switch to Glasgow before walking back on their initial comments.
