Willy Caballero warns Kepa in battle for Chelsea number one goalkeeper spot

Willy Caballero has warned Kepa Arrizabalaga he will not give up his new role as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper without a fight as the Spaniard faces an uncertain future at the club.

Caballero, who recently penned a new one-year extension to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, has featured in the final three matches of the season - including the FA Cup Final.

Kepa was dropped after a string of poor performances in goal, and Frank Lampard is understood to be considering signing a new goalkeeper this summer to replace the struggling Spaniard.

Caballero was selected to start for the Blues in their 4-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League last-16 second leg and the 38-year-old Argentinian could only be blamed directly for the opening goal, bringing down Robert Lewandowski inside the penalty area.

The veteran says he would be delighted to continue in that role next season, although he stopped short of confirming whether he knew he would permanently replace Kepa as Lampard's first-choice.

"I signed a new one-year contract and I am really happy to play with this shirt," he told BT Sport.

"I want to keep playing. In the last month, I became the first goalkeeper and we will see what happens in the future. I will keep working hard to have this opportunity again.

"The boss told me I had to play these couple of games but as I said always, when I'm in second position as a goalkeeper I train as if I am starting."

Chelsea's European journey ended with a whimper after losing 7-1 on aggregate, with Lewandowski scoring two and setting up the other two goals.
