Seven fire engines have rushed to takeaway on Willowbrae road to tackle a fire at the Kam Lo Chinese Takeaway.
It is understood the road has now been closed, and residents at properties behind the takeaway appear to being in the process of evacuating.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told Edinburgh Live it had four appliances on scene, as well as a high rise vehicle to tackle the blaze.
An eyewitness said she saw thick smoke pouring out of the Kam Lo takeaway.
Fire crews have gone in through the roof, another eyewitness confirmed.
Police Scotland are on scene, and Willowbrae Road is closed for the time being.
The police tweeted: "Willowbrae Road, Edinburgh closed in both directions between Northfield crescent and Abercorn Crescent, due to a ongoing incident."
