Construction firm Willmott Dixon said it has won a refurbishment contract to help create a new film school in Islington.

The Hertfordshire-headquartered firm will help build the London Screen Academy, opening in September at 62-66 Highbury Grove. There will be an initial intake of 300 students.

Teens will learn about film-production techniques, costume design and movie marketing.

The contract, understood to be worth about £20 million, was awarded by the Department for Education.

Work will be done by Willmott Dixon Interiors and includes creating a three-storey film production studio, and new windows and façade repairs to the existing building.

Willmott Dixon Interiors’ Graham Shaw said the site will help “cement London’s position as a world-class destination for the film industry”.

He added: “This is another example of the scope and complexity of work we deliver.”

Other London projects parent Willmott Dixon has worked on include refurbishing parts of Alexandra Palace.
