Matt Evers' tribute to Willie Thorne after snooker hero-turned Strictly star dies

Dancing On Ice pro Matt Evers has paid tribute to his pal Willie Thorne following his death aged 66.

The snooker legend died at a hospital in Spain on Sunday after a battle with leukaemia.

After his snooker career came to an end, Willie forged a new career as a TV star - competing in Strictly Come Dancing and in The Real Full Monty alongside Matt.

After news of his death broke, Matt took to Instagram to share a picture of the stars of The Real Full Monty and added a touching tribute to his friend.

Matt wrote: "To the peaceful giant who would always leave us Monty boys crying with laughter with your subtle one liners...

"Rest In Peace Willie. Sending love and light to your family. #legend."

Willie starred on the ITV show alongside stars including Love Island's Jack Fincham, Strictly's Kelvin Fletcher and TV presenter Rav Wilding.

Rav added his own tribute to Willie, sharing a picture of them together and writing: "So sad to hear the awful news.

"A gentle giant and kind and funny man Who I will miss terribly. RIP Willie."

The Real Full Monty showed celebrities stripping off for a charity show to raise awareness of testicular and prostate cancer.

Willie took part in the series last year.

He previously took to the dance floor for Strictly back in 2007, partnering with pro Erin Boag but being voted out on week three.

The snooker appeared alongside stars including EastEnders actor Matt Di Angelo and Alesha Dixon, who went on to win the glitterball trophy.
