Willie O'Connor will face Daryl Gurney in an all-Ireland clash at the World Darts Championship on Thursday after beating Niels Zonneveld in straight sets this afternoon.
The Limerick man ran out the 3-0 winner against a frustrated Zonneveld, whose darts bounced out from the board on a couple of occasions.
He will now face Derry's Gurney in the second round tomorrow afternoon after dropping just three legs to his Dutch opponent.
O'Connor, who is ranked 36th in the world, finished with an average of 88.42 which included four 180s and 12 140s. Gurney is currently ranked as number 11 in the world.
O'Connor took both of the first two legs in the opening set, breaking Zonneveld's throw in the first of them.
He then got the match's first 180 in the third leg of that set, but lost it after missing a couple of darts at doubles.
But he took the set in the fourth leg as he finished on double ten to win 3-1.
O'Connor held his throw in the opening leg of set two before losing the second.
He then took the third before breaking Zonneveld's throw to win the set.
O'Connor appeared annoyed at some of his attempts at doubles, but it didn't stop him taking the final set by winning three of the four legs.
He told Sky Sports after the game: "I was on edge coming in here.
"I didn’t feel I was on top form in this game. It’s behind me now and we move on to the next one.
"I know Daryl can play phenomenal darts. I’m expecting the best version of Daryl."
The match came after Meath teenager Keane Barry crashed out of the tournament on Tuesday night following a 3-1 loss to Jeff Smith.
