Willie O'Connor eases past Glen Durrant into third round of World Darts Championship

Willie O'Connor produced one of his best performances since the 2019 Darts World Cup to progress to the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship today.

The Irishman picked up a relatively comfortable straight sets win over 2020 Premier League champion Glen Durrant at Ally Pally in the second round.

The 24th seed's struggles were perfectly summed up as he missed three darts at double eighteen to stop O'Connor from taking the match - before the Limerick native checked out from 48 with two darts.

O'Connor set the tone as he started the game with a massive 170 checkout - the first of this year's tournament - to signal his intent for the rest of the afternoon.

He takes on ninth seed Michael Smith, who's 106.32 average in the second round made him the in-form player so far, and admits that he'll have to improve on his 90.74 average today if he wants to progress.

"This is where big things will happen," he joked after the match.

"Whether for me, I don't know - but they're gonna happen for someone.

"I'll be here after Christmas, but I can't play like that, if I play like that in the next game I'm going home."
