Willie Mullins lands huge 1,484/1 across the cards treble at Limerick and the Curragh

Willie Mullins landed a huge across the cards treble on Sunday - but few punters were on it.

For once the legendary Carlow trainer was a friend of the bookies as he landed the 1,484/1 treble between Limerick and the Curragh.

Paul Townend got the ball rolling on Listen Dear in the 2.35pm contest at Limerick, winning at odds of 14/1.

Just under two hours later the Mullins team were celebrating again when 17-year-old Joey Sheridan rode 10/1 shot Royal Illusion to victory in the Irish Cesarewitch at the Curragh.

The feature contest at Limerick also went the way of the champion trainer when Cabaret Queen took the Munster National at 4.35pm under Townend and while that selection was popular with punters, it was the bookies who were celebrating last night.

Nicola McGeady from Ladbrokes said: “Yesterday’s treble caught punters by surprise with two double priced winners involved. Cabaret Queen was popular but the other two failed to capture the imagination of punters. For once, Willie Mullins was the toast of our Sunday afternoon.”

It was a hugely successful weekend for Mullins, who landed a Cesarewitch double after Stratum's win at Newmarket on Saturday, and both him and Royal Illusion could be heading for the Middle East next.

Speaking on Sunday, Mullins said: "I was thinking, 'what are we going to do now with Stratum?' - and there is a 2.5million race out in Saudi Arabia.

"He goes on good ground and she goes on good ground. I'd imagine they will go there if they get an invite.

"It's on February 29 and is not what I need two weeks before Cheltenham, but for that money we'll have to go."
