Willie Mullins lands close to €1 million in prize money and 82,663/1 accumulator over Dublin Racing Festival

The 2021 Dublin Racing Festival will go down as been yet another example of the Willlie Mullins show.

From the first flag fall and Gaillard Du Mesnil routing the opposition in the Nathaniel Lacy Solicitors Novice Hurdle, the Closutton handler could do no wrong.

And the numbers speak for themselves. Six Grade 1 wins in all were won by Team Mullins, including all four novice hurdles and novice chases.

In open company, Chacun Pour Soi won the two-mile Ladbrokes Dublin Chase on Saturday and Kemboy won the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup today.

There were also two Grade 2 wins in the concluding bumpers, with a horse called Kilcruit annihilating the opposition in the manner of an equine freak in Saturday's last race.

In the Patrick Ward & Co. Arkle Novice Chase, Mullins saddled the first three horses home, and his total prize money from the two-day meeting was an incredible €877,500.

All in all, including winning the highly-competitive William Fry Handicap Hurdle, the 64-year-old handler won nine races at Leopardstown.

And any Mullins-mad punter who backed - Gaillard Du Mesnil (13/8), Chacun Pour Soi (2/5), Energumene (5/6), Kilcruit (11/10), Appreciate It (1/3), Maze Runner (40/1), Monkfish (1/2), Kemboy (11/4) and Grangee (1/2) - would have been onto a 82,663/1 accumulator.

It has all given Mullins what looks to be an unassailable lead over Gordon Elliott in the Trainers' Championship. And looking forward to Cheltenham next month, he has eight current favourites for Grade 1s.
