Willie Miller's Aberdeen legacy hailed as fans vote to name pitch in his honour

Aberdeen have announced one of the pitches at their new training centre Cormack Park will be named after legendary captain Willie Miller .

Fans voted at the end of August for who the pitches at the £12m training facility should be named after, with the announcement that former kitman Teddy Scott would also receive the honour yesterday.

Miller is widely regarded as the finest Scottish defender of the last 50 years and led the club as captain, manager and as a director.

In the trophy-laden Alex Ferguson era, Miller was the key figure, leading his teammates to Cup Winners' Cup glory.

He said: "I think that Aberdeen with this facility now can maybe even better some of the top clubs in Scotland rather than just match them.

"It's perfect to entice quality players you want to bring to the club and I'm absolutely delighted and very humbled to be putting my name to one of the pitches voted for by the fans.

"It's great to hear that news and my name will live on but the most important thing is that the facilities are here now. It's been a long time coming."
