Willie McGinest has compelling take on Patriots, Cam Newton

Willie McGinest won’t rule out the New England Patriots signing quarterback Cam Newton, whose free agency has lasted much longer than anyone could have expected. Newton is coming back from a handful of injuries, and with the coronavirus pandemic putting the NFL in a lockdown, teams are probably awaiting the opportunity to give him a physical.

When that happens, McGinest thinks New England is a good fit for him.

”I think that Bill Belichick has handled so many different personalities that they would coexist,” McGinest said Thursday on FOX Sports 1’s “Speak For Yourself.” “It would be a great working relationship. I’m just telling you guys right now, there is a lot of respect from the Patriots organization when it comes to Cam Newton. They have played several times and Cam Newton has showed out and played at a high level every single time they’ve played.”

Considering the Patriots have just Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer at quarterback, New England seems like a strong candidate to kick the tires on Newton. Still, they have yet to show interest in the quarterback, according to NFL Network’s Mike Giardi. But if the Patriots find they can give Newton a physical and teach Newton the playbook in time for training camp, perhaps they’ll change their mind on signing the veteran.
