Willie Haughey and Paul McStay provide update on Celtic Season Ticket Alliance

Lord Willie Haughey and Paul McStay have provided an update on their Celtic 'Season Ticket Alliance' campaign.

Back in February, Haughey pledged to put £2million of his own money for every 10,000 season ticket holders that signed up for the Alliance, which he hoped would amount to £10million, giving fans more of a say regarding the running of the club at board level.

He also teased a Celtic legend would be helping him front it and later announced that as McStay.

The pair have now appeared on the Go Radio Football Show and provided an update.

Asked how the campaign was going, Haughey said: "Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. Myself and Paul have been around about 13 supporters clubs in various venues, and the uptake has been phenomenal. We were very excited with the amount of people that signed up.

"Over the next few weeks, we’re going to start a full promotion on social media and we’re going to launch our own YouTube channel. It’s all coming together brilliantly."

On exactly how things will work, he went on: "Hopefully, we’re going to get enough fans to sign up. For every 10,000 fans that sign up, we will put two million pounds into the trust to buy shares.

"The hope would be 50,000 to 54,000 people will sign up so we have 10 million in the trust. Hopefully, within those 54,000 people, we will have an amount of people who already have shares, which we are finding out is the case at the moment. I would like to think that very quickly we can get to 10% ownership of the club and that should give us a voice. In the next few weeks, we will be the largest group representing Celtic that the board would have to deal with.

"Ultimately, we are trying to build it up into something unique where the trustees could end up with a voice and potentially get a seat on the football board."
