Willie Cauley-Stein opens up on joining Warriors, to ‘stay secure’

The Golden State Warriors are in the middle of an offseason overhaul as they will field a completely different team in 2019-20 than the one that reached a fifth straight Finals in 2019.

Along with newcomer D’Angelo Russell, another newcomer is Willie Cauley-Stein. The Warriors signed away the big man from the Sacramento Kings and he could not be happier in joining Golden State after tumultuous seasons in California’s capital.

He wanted to be secure and be able to grow as he told reporters:

I had said something about getting paid at the beginning of the year, but by the end of it, it was no longer about getting paid it was more about ‘how do I stay secur?’ and ‘how do I build off that security?’ and I think the Warriors are probably the best at doing that in the league so it was a real easy decision on me and my team’s part. It’s just exciting to start fresh and still not be that far away from my last home in Sacramento. That’s damn near home now after being there for four years so it’s nice that I don’t have to be that far and still keep those relationships.

Cauley-Stein’s Kings career had grown stale after averages of 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in 2018-19 and he now will have a fresh start with one of the gold standard organizations in the league.

With DeMarcus Cousins off to Los Angeles to join the Lakers, Cauley-Stein now has a big opportunity to be a consistent starter for the Warriors and prove that he still has some growth to his game.
