Willie Anderson tweets about Bengals giving him an official retirement

Willie Anderson wants to retire as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals.

That should end the conversation right there, really. Anderson, a top-10 pick by the Bengals in 1996, went on to become a franchise legend while playing for the team through the 2008 season.

Anderson noted in the above tweet he never got around to doing something official with the Bengals.

The tweet stems from a look at the top 20 Bengals of the Bengals.com era dating back to 2000 by Geoff Hobson. There, Anderson ranked second of all time since 2000.

Anderson did have a brief stint with the Baltimore Ravens in 2009 before hanging up his cleats. Regardless, he was ahead of his time as far as right tackles go these days, shutting down mainstays of his era like Adalius Thomas, Terrell Suggs and Julius Peppers, to name a few.

While the Bengals did honor Anderson during their 50th season, it would certainly be nice to see the franchise make something happen here for one of its greats.
