Willian's four-word message to Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard ahead of pre-season return

Chelsea winger Willian is gearing up for his return to Chelsea.

The 30-year-old is yet to link up with the Blues squad for pre-season.

This is because of two reasons. One being that he was on international duty with Brazil at this summer's Copa America tournament on home soil and the other being that he has been struggling with a thigh injury.

That setback caused him to sit out the final against Peru and has since been been back at Cobham to step up his recovery.

With Pedro and new signing Christian Pulisic the main competition for a place out wide at the start of the 2019/2020 season, Willian certainly has his work cut out to sneak above one in the pecking order.

Scheduled to report for training early next month, Willian has taken to social media and sent a message to new Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard.

Via his Instagram stories there is a clip of the attacking midfielder running on the treadmill.

And the caption reads: "Ready to go again!"

There has even been talk of Willian being handed the no.10 shirt ahead of the new season.

It's a squad number which is now vacant following Eden Hazard's big summer transfer to Real Madrid and it's one which the Brazilian is keen to inherit.

"Number ten is now mine. The club has said it will change [my shirt number] and it will be mine," Willian told Desimpedidos .

"I have always liked playing with number ten. Since I was a kid playing indoors football, I have always used the number ten.

"At Corinthians I was also number ten."

Ultimately the decision will rest with Lampard and he hasn't confirmed the destiny of the no.10 shirt just yet.

"There's no confirmation of that decision, but it will be taken in due course," Lampard said. "I didn't see the interview but I did hear about it.

"Hopefully his return to training date is early August. He needed a bit of a break as well and we're controlling that and making sure he's getting his rehab during that break.

"I'm hopeful he will come and train with us early August and he'll get up to a level pretty quickly and be available for selection."
