Willian provides fresh update on Chelsea future as Arsenal and Tottenham keep tabs on winger

Willian is open to signing a short-term extension at Chelsea to see out the rest of the delayed Premier League season but the Brazilian has cast further doubt over his longer-term future at Stamford Bridge.

The 31-year-old's current deal ends on June 30 but he is open to staying put until the 2019-20 campaign is drawn to a close.

The prospect of him remaining in West London beyond that, however, appears remote with talks between the player's representatives and the club stalled.

Willian is demanding a three-year deal, while the club are not willing to submit to that particular demand.

Talks have not progressed in a number of months and while head coach Frank Lampard views Willian as a key asset there is a growing feeling that he will move elsewhere as a free agent once the transfer window opens.

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are both monitoring the situation, though no negotiations have taken place with either club. It is worth keeping in mind that Willian and his family feel settled living in London.

“It’s a difficult situation because Chelsea offered me two years and they are not going to change what they offered. I said I wanted three more years,” the winger told Esporte Interativo.

“The situation is difficult because of this. I really don’t know if it will be possible [to stay]. My goal is to continue working and focus on the remainder of the season, so that Chelsea can continue winning games.

“I have a clear head and I'm focused for the rest of the season that we have left. I think it’s difficult [to stay]. Let's see what happens.”
