Willian opens up on Mikel Arteta and admits he's had 'worst time of career' this season

Arsenal are in "good hands" with Mikel Arteta at the helm according to Willian, who has backed the Spaniard to become one of the world's best.

The Gunners took the plunge on Arteta back in 2019 despite his lack of experience as a No 1.

He has wasted no time in stamping his authority however and has implemented his philosophy in north London.

Arteta has not been afraid to make big calls and is looking to end Arsenal's Champions League exodus.

A mixed campaign means that wait is unlikely to end this term, but there continues to be signs of optimism going forward.

Willian has spoken highly of Arteta's man management skills which he believes can lead to future silverware.

"I believe Arsenal has the potential to be a great project, it is a great club, it is in the hands of a good coach who has everything to become one of the best coaches in the world," he told ESPN Brazil.

"Arsenal has everything it takes to be a power again, to fight for titles, to return to play in the Champions League, this is what all the players hope for.

"[Arteta] always tries to talk to the players individually, even on the field, when the training ends he calls the player, explains what he wants from the player, how to position himself, receive the ball.

"In short, he is always trying to help the players.

"He has really been doing a great job, he has always been looking after the players in the best possible way, giving ideas, instructing, showing what he wants.

"Arsenal are in good hands."

Willian's first year at the Emirates has been a struggle, although he is beginning to produce once more.

The Brazilian was benched and criticised by some quarters earlier this term, a period which he calls the "worst time" of his career.
