Willian linked with early Arsenal exit as Mikel Arteta delivers Thomas Partey update

Here is your Arsenal morning digest on Thursday, December 10.

Betis interested in Willian

Spanish club Real Betis could be interested in signing Arsenal winger Willian in January, according to El Gol Digital (via Sport Witness ).

Betis winger Joaquin is 'very close' to retiring at the end of the 2020/21 season, and if that does indeed happen, then the La Liga side would be interested in signing Willian.

The experienced Brazilian only joined the Gunners in the summer after leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2019/20 campaign, and has had a slow start at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal officials are considering letting the 32-year-old leave when the January transfer window opens, and if that is the case, then Betis would consider signing the ex-Chelsea star.

Arteta's Partey injury update

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Thomas Partey will "miss the next few matches" following the injury he sustained to his thigh against Tottenham Hotspur.

Partey was taken off in the 2-0 defeat at Spurs after suffering a recurring problem to his thigh - after he was the surprise inclusion in Arteta's line-up for the north London derby.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the Europa League clash against Dundalk, Arteta said: "(He) will miss the next few matches.

"He did incredibly well and was very confident. We tested him three times and he had zero incidents. In football you have a lot of unpredictable actions."

Joorabchian responds to Carragher's comments

Agent Kia Joorabchian has responded to Jamie Carragher following his comments regarding Arsenal's transfers.

Carragher said some of Arteta's signings at the Gunners - including Willian, David Luiz and Cedric - were a "joke" and asked if Joorabchian was making the signings at the club.

The agent said: "I’m very surprised because Jamie is one of the people that monopolises Sky Sports commentary. Sky Sports producers pay a lot of money to him, so I can’t understand why he doesn’t check his facts before he speaks.

"The fact is I had nothing to do with the signing of Willian. If Jamie had bothered to check with Mikel [Arteta] or [technical director] Edu, they would have said Mikel presented three different times to convince Willian to be his number one signing at Arsenal."
