Willian gives hope over long-term Chelsea future after netting Man City winner

Willian has stated that there is a chance he will remain at Chelsea despite his contract negotiations having stalled.

The 31-year-old has been in a stalemate with the Blues for several months over a new deal, with the Brazilian wanting a new three-year deal.

However, the west London club are only willing to give the winger a two-year contract, with his current deal ending at the culmination of the 2019/20 campaign.

Willian has been linked with a move to both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal on a free transfer, with the Brazilian himself saying before that a new contract would be a struggle to get over the line.

The winger showed his worth to the Blues in the 2-1 win over Manchester City on Thursday night, playing a big part in winning the penalty and then slotting away the winner himself.

It was a massive boost to Chelsea's Champions League chances, and Willian is hoping that he can seal that spot for his current club.

"I want to finish the season well if I go, or maybe I can stay," Willian said. "I don’t know but what I want now is to play well and for Chelsea to finish in the top four.

"I’m feeling good. We had one month to prepare well with a lot of fitness training so all the players feel good to play and we showed that on the pitch.

"We have to keep going. We know teams that come from behind want to win to go in the top four as well so we have to do our job."
