Willian deal close as Arsenal's summer transfer priorities are laid bare after key announcement

Here is your Arsenal morning digest for Thursday, August 6.

Transfer priorities made clear

Arsenal have made their transfer priorities clear after the announcement that 55 members of staff will be made redundant in the aftermath of the coronavirus pandemic.

The club statement confirmed: "These steps have all reduced the impact of the pandemic on the club and have helped us continue to maintain investment in the team. This will continue to be a key priority."

Football.london understands that recruitment plans are unaffected by the announcement though of course informed by the current financial currents.

Willian deal edges closer

Big breakthroughs appear to have been made in Arsenal's pursuit to sign Willian on a free transfer ahead of the expiration of his deal with Chelsea.

The most recent reports show a leak that has 'confirmed' the imminent transfer of the Brazil international, while others suggest a two-year deal is on the cards - not the three years reported elsewhere.

We're continuing to round up all the latest in the Willian transfer developments for you.

Ibrahima Diallo opens door for transfer

Brest midfielder Ibrahima Diallo has suggested he could leave the French side this summer amid reports of Arsenal's interest.

The Gunners have made Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey their prime target ahead of the 2020-21 season but Diallo has been touted as an alternative - and he's opened the door for a move.

"As the Sporting Director (Gregory Lorenzi) said, if an offer comes in, the club will examine it and I will examine it, and we will discuss (a move away). But, for the moment, I’m happy to be in Brest,” he told Le Telegramme.

“It doesn’t change my state of mind. I never said to myself; ‘It’s this summer that I’m leaving’! It’s not like I absolutely want to leave (But), at my age, it would be silly to say that I can’t aim higher. Without disrespecting the club, I want to go higher.”
