Willian confirms injury blow as he misses out on Chelsea's final Premier League fixture

Willian has taken to Twitter to confirm the reason for him missing Chelsea’s final game of the season against Wolves.

Christian Pulisic has also returned to Chelsea's starting XI for this afternoon's game in place of Willian.

However, the Brazilian may have played his final game for the club with his deal due to expire in the coming weeks.

Chelsea v Wolves: Frank Lampard press conference

The 31-year-old has been at Stamford Bridge since 2013 but his time at the club could be close to the end after negotiations over a new contract have proved unsuccessful.

The Brazilian wants a long-term new deal, but the Blues are only willing to offer him a two-year contract as he turns 32 in August.

And taking to Twitter, Willian revealed that despite missing out through injury, he will still be at Stamford Bridge supporting his side.

He wrote:“I did treatment until the last minute to be able to be in the field, but this time, unfortunately, it will not be possible. I will be at Stamford Bridge supporting my teammates. Come on Chelsea!”

Speaking recently, former Liverpool player and manager Graeme Souness claimed the midfielder was Chelsea’s best player.

He told Sky Sports: “I think he’s their best player.

“He wants a three-year [contract], they’ve offered two. I’d be giving it to him.

“You watch him play, he doesn’t look like a player to me whose legs are going anytime soon and he’s got great qualities.

“So I would be bending over backwards to keep him at the football club.”
