It is an unprecedented time for football and the Premier League.
Fixtures have been put on hold until at least April 30th amid the worldwide outbreak of coronavirus meaning that restrictions have been put on mass gatherings.
The decision to temporarily suspend the league was taken at the end of last week following the diagnosis of both Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta and Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.
The Premier League have now announced that the June 1st limit to finish the campaign has been "extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season."
This means that the season could extend beyond June 30th,
So, should that happen, which Chelsea players will be affected? Take a look below to find out.
Willy Caballero
The goalkeeper’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs out on June 30th, which could cause a problem for Lampard should the league extend beyond that date.
The Argentianian found himself ahead of Kepa Arrizabalaga in the pecking order in recent weeks after a poor run of form for the Spaniard.
However Kepa regained his place for the 4-0 win over Everton in the Blues’ last outing before the suspension.
Ceballero could have played his last game for the club should he not renew his contract in the next few months.
Willian
The Brazilian has been locked in talks with Chelsea in recent times, but a disagreement over the length of contract has bought a halt to discussions.
It means that Willian will be out on contract at the end of June, however, the player has made a decision on what he will do if the season extends beyond that date.
Willian has made 28 appearances in the Premier League so far this season, scoring five goals and providing five assists.
Pedro
Another winger who will find himself out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer should he not agree a new deal in the next couple of months.
The Spaniard signed an extension to his deal in the summer of 2018 but will be available on a free transfer in the summer.
Injury has curtailed the 32-year-old’s season, with him making just nine league appearances in 2019/20, although he could prove to be an important player in the closing weeks of the season should Chelsea be able to sort out a short term deal amid the possible relaxation of rules by the Premier League.
Olivier Giroud
The striker was close to leaving Chelsea during the January window as he searched for gametime.
However, the Blues' failure to find a replacement meant that the Frenchman stayed at Stamford Bridge for another six months.
In recent weeks the 33-year-old has found game time easier to come by by being named in the starting 11 for the past three Premier League games.
He has earned praise for his performances, but is out of contract at the end of June meaning that something has to be sorted should the season extend beyond then.
Marco van Ginkel
The fourth Chelsea player to be out of contract at the end of the season, but one who is not likely to be affected as much as the other three.
A knee injury has meant that the midfielder has not made an appearance in the first team squad yet this season.
The Dutchman returned to the training pitches in November, but is still completing the final stages of his rehabilitation.
However, some injuries mean that Lampard could call on him in the closing weeks of the season but it means that his contract situation will need to be sorted.
