'Willian 2.0!' - Arsenal fans respond to Aubameyang transfer update amid Coutinho links

Arsenal fans have been expressing their aversion to a potential swap deal involving Gunners captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Philippe Coutinho.

It had previously been reported that the Catalan giants were looking to bolster their frontline with one of Arsenal duo Alexandre Lacazette or indeed Aubameyang.

Due to Barcelona’s dire financial situation however, it was suggested that they could be set to offer players in part-exchange rather than having to pay a transfer fee.

Now, fresh reports from Sky Sports suggest that the Gabon striker could be their prime target and that Coutinho could well be the man to come the other way to the Emirates Stadium.

Despite having sparkled in the Premier League for Liverpool, having netted 54 goals in 201 appearances for the Reds before his move to the Spanish top-flight, he has not quite been able to replicate those performances with his current employers.

He has scored 24 goals in 90 appearances for the Catalan giants but has never fully been assured of a place in the starting line-up and was even sent out on loan to Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 campaign.

Coutinho’s future looks increasingly uncertain at the Camp Nou and he could be on the way out sooner rather than later.

However, judging from responses on social media to the news, Arsenal fans are sincerely hoping that his next destination is not the Emirates Stadium.

Away from Coutinho’s future, Aubameyang is not certain of his place in the current Arsenal squad.

The current Gunners captain has been linked with a move throughout the summer.

Alongside strike partner Lacazette, he missed the opening day reverse at the hands of Brentford due to illness and it remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough for this weekend’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
