Williams sacked by the Eels after failing drug test

Parramatta Eels player Tony Williams has had his contract terminated under the game's illicit drug policy, after recording a second failed test.

Williams has represented Australia and New South Wales in the State of Origin, and won a premiership with Manly in 2011.

Williams, 29, has also been suspended for 12 weeks by the NRL.

He had appeared in five NRL games before having to pull out of the season to recover from an ACL injury on his right knee.

His teammate Nathan Davis was also handed a 12-week suspension by the NRL, and was fined by the Eels for a second drug breach.

The club says both players will now be provided with welfare assistance.
