William Storey claims rival takeover is 'nonsense' as he submits second offer to buy Sunderland AFC

William Storey has once again taken to social media to update fans on his attempt to become the new owner at the Stadium of Light.

The Rich Energy founder has once again claimed a takeover from Juan Sartori and Kril Louis-Dreyfus, which is expected to be completed next week, as "nonsense."

His claims come just hours after Storey revealed he had submitted a second legal bid to purchase the Black Cats on November 19.

Storey tweeted: "I can confirm that my London lawyers submitted a second formal legal bid to purchase Sunderland AFC on the 19th November.

"It is by far the biggest offer received by Madrox partners limited & I expect it to be accepted."

Sunderland are refusing to comment on the reports claiming Kyril Louis-Dreyfus' takeover has reached the stage where it is being scrutinised by the EFL.

The consortium led by board member Juan Sartori and involving France-based billionaire heir Louis-Dreyfus is understood to be the preferred bidder that majority shareholder Stewart Donald has been negotiating with for some time.

And according to Roker Report, who cite 'European sources with close links to the EFL and parties involved in the deal', the consortium's bid is now under consideration by the EFL who must apply their Owners' and Directors' Test before giving it their seal of approval.

Storey posted an image to his social media last week, with a document claiming to be part of the EFL's Owners and Directors test.

He has since tweeted: "I suggest the Roker Raport ask Sunderland AFC for an official response to their 'story' as it is nonsense.

"The 'deal' they refer to is for less than HALF of what I've bid & is miles away from being agreed.

"Fans need the truth. The club needs urgent investment."

Aside from chief executive Jim Rodwell confirming earlier this month that the club 'remains in a period of exclusivity with a preferred buyer', Sunderland have said nothing on the record about the progress of any takeover.

The club is taking the same approach to the latest claims that the deal is now being looked at by the EFL, simply responding 'no comment' when asked this afternoon.
