A fundraiser for the family of a young boy who lost his life after entering a Renfrewshire river has surpassed £8,000.
William McNally, 13, was rescued from the River Gryffe on Wednesday and rushed by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.
The teenager sadly passed away three days later, police confirmed.
A family friend has set up a fundraiser in William’s memory, to ‘give him the send off he deserves’. The JustGiving page by Cheryl Burke reads: “William was a character, full of life and had many wonderful quirky traits.

“Any donations would be greatly appreciated to help a devastated family who have had their world turned upside down. Let’s give him the send-off he deserves. Rest in peace William.”
Cheryl’s has bypassed her £500 fundraising target with help from 452 supporters and, at the time of writing, had raised £8,186.
One anonymous donation from a teacher of William’s reads: “You were a pleasure to have in my class. Such a kind and gentle soul. I will always think of you fondly. Sleep easy William.”
Others shared their thoughts for the youngster’s family following this week’s sad news.
