Deputy Prime Minister Michael McCormack has promised West Belconnen residents the duplication of William Hovell Drive will "bust congestion" for commuters.
Alongside ACT senator Zed Seselja, Mr McCormack was at Whitlam on Monday to announce federal funding for several of the capital's infrastructure projects.
Mr McCormack flagged spending of $26.5 million for William Hovell Drive, $5 million for Gundaroo Drive and $2.5 million for Pialligo, ahead of Tuesday's budget.
Mr Seselja said the investment in roads would not come at the expense of public transport infrastructure, suggesting Treasurer Josh Frydenberg would announce further investment in Canberra's transport system on Tuesday.
He said roads continued to be important, particularly for those living in the Molonglo Valley, West Belconnen or Gungahlin.
"The vast majority of Canberrans are still relying on their cars to get to and from work," Mr Seselja said.
The ACT government is currently undertaking design work to duplicate the 4.5 kilometre section of William Hovell Drive between Drake Brockman Drive and John Gorton Drive.
More than 20,000 vehicles currently use the section of road, with numbers set to increase as the area develops.
The project will include on-road cycle lanes and off-road shared paths as part of the design work.
Mr Seselja said residents of West Belconnen and surrounding suburbs were set to benefit through reduced travel times.
"We know that this is a growing area and we need to invest money here, that's why we've committed money in the Tuggeranong Parkway" Mr Seselja said.
"We know that this western corridor is seeing great growth pressures."

Mr McCormack said in just the last few months over $300 million had been invested in road infrastructure in Canberra.
"The new $26.5 William Hovell Drive Duplication project will bust congestion for commuters from West Belconnen and surrounding suburbs, while also supporting more than 170 jobs in the ACT at a time when it is needed most," he said.
"This is on top of the Australian government's recent commitments of $137 million to upgrade Commonwealth Avenue Bridge, delivered by the National Capital Authority, and $132.5 million for Canberra light rail - stage 2A."
