William Buick suffers suspected concussion after falls at Meydan

William Buick appears to have escaped serious injury, despite being knocked out in the second of two separate falls during racing at Meydan in Dubai today. The British jockey, who is contracted to ride in the Emirates for the trainer Dhruba Selvaratnam, fell from Sarbola in the six-furlong maiden and missed a mount in the following race while he was assessed by doctors.

Having been cleared to ride in the race after that, he was again sent crashing to the ground when his mount, Foolin Myself, broke down badly in the one-mile conditions event on the Tapeta surface.

Confusion initially surrounded the exact nature of Buick's injuries and the jockey was taken to hospital locally, but his father, Walter, who watched the races on television at his home in Britain, said this evening: "I have spoken to Dhruba and he said he believed that William hadn't suffered any broken bones, although they are going to do plenty of tests on him tonight, as I think he lost consciousness at some point. Thankfully it seems like it is just a case of bad concussion."
