The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge travelled to Edinburgh today as part of their three-day tour of the UK.
Prince William and Kate Middleton arrived at Edinburgh Waverley for the visit that will see them thank NHS workers for their efforts during the Covid-19 crisis.
But not everyone was happy about this.
Edinburgh locals have been tagging Police Scotland in tweets this morning claiming that the royal couple are 'breaking lockdown rules' in Scotland by travelling around the country, reports Edinburgh Live.
Current government guidelines state that: "You must not, by law, travel into or out of Level 3 and Level 4 local authority areas except for essential reasons."
Tagging Police Scotland, one Twitter user wrote: "I haven’t been able to go and see my grandchildren in Edinburgh since August and yet they can just waltz into the capital."
Another tweeted the police: "Why didn't you arrest or fine our royal visitors for breaking the law on non essential travel? There are no royal exemptions to the rules."
Questioning what makes the royal's trip to the capital 'essential', Dr Katrina Farrell said: "It's a slap in the face at a time when people can't get married, have restricted numbers at funerals and hospital inpatients aren't allowed visitors. What exactly makes this essential travel?"
Nicola Sturgeon was asked whether the royal visit to Scotland broke government guidelines at today's daily coronavirus briefing but said that it was not a question for her to answer: "It's a matter for the royal household and any questions about that should be directed to them".
The Mirror has reached out to the royal household for a statement.
