William and Harry 'made Spice Girls peanut butter on toast' during afternoon tea

The Royal Family are known to have personal chefs whip them up tasty and healthy meals every day, but one memorable tale proves Prince William and Prince Harry knew their way around the kitchen as kids. In an interview on BBC One's The One Show, Melanie C revealed that the royal brothers once made them peanut butter on toast to keep them going.

Sporty Spice and her bandmates - Mel B, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Victoria Beckham - were invited to meet the King Charles III 's at his home in 1998. After having afternoon tea with the Prince and his two children in Highgrove Castle, one of the Spices complained she was still feeling a tad hungry.

So, William and Harry, who were teenagers at the time, took the girls down to the kitchens and got the necessary ingredients out for a classic snack - a jar of peanut butter and slices of bread.

Mel explained: "This must have been 97 or 98 and we were invited to Highgrove for tea.

"It was the very traditional cucumber sandwiches and in the drawing room. It was very formal.

"One of the members of the band - I'm sure you can guess who - complained she wasn't quite full.

"So we were taken down to the kitchens with William and Harry and they made us peanut butter on toast."

When asked if King Charles was a good host, she simply replied: "He was a decent host but William and Harry were better."

King Charles III has met the Spice Girls on a number of occasions over the years (PA)

The King has enjoyed many other encounters with the Spice Girls over the years - but one outrageous night will go down in history.

Charles was walking down the line speaking to guests at the charity gala for the Princes' Trust in 1997, and got more than he'd bargained for.

After a quick giggle with Victoria Beckham, the King got asked out for dinner by a giddy Mel B, who then broke royal protocol by giving the royal a kiss on the cheek.

"You should get your tongue pierced," she told a flustered Charles, who asked when she was going to get hers done.

Scary Spice then awkwardly confessed "you've got lipstick on you now" before wiping his cheek.

Geri Halliwell was accused of pinching the Prince's bottom - but insisted she didn't (PA)

But the heat was really turned up when Geri Horner interrupted to tell Charles that he was "very sexy" and gave him a massive smooch on the cheek.

Then she controversially touched the future King's bum - with many at the time reporting that she gave his bottom a pinch.

Years later, Geri would deny that she pinched Charles' behind and insisted it was only a "pat".

"I didn't pinch Prince Charles' bum, as was reported. I patted it," she insisted. "Patting him on the bottom was against royal protocol but we're all human.

"There was a lot of nervous energy, young women, happy antics."

Geri praised Charles for being a modern royal and being conscious of the world (PA)

More than 20 years after that cheeky kiss in 1997, Charles and Geri were reunited at the 21st anniversary of the Prince's Trust in Manchester in 2019.

But this time she was on her best behaviour as she was also joined by her husband, Formula One's Red Bull boss Christian Horner.

The pair began chatting once again as the Savoy Hotel in London - with the Spice Girl praising him for being a "modern royal".

"I feel like we should be really proud of what he does," explained Geri.

"He's a modern man, he's a modern royal in everything he does. He has consciousness. He thinks about the world that we live in."
