Will your holiday to Disney World in Florida be affected by Hurricane Dorian?

Brits travelling to Florida should be prepared for some of the state's major attractions to be closed as Hurricane Dorian tears through the US.

The Category 1 storm is expected to develop into a Category 4 hurricane by the time it hits US shores on Monday.

The force of nature is likely to bring 130 mile-per-hour winds and come within five miles of Florida's Disney World next week, according to forecaster John Belski.

Disney, which has just opened its new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge area at the park, is urging customers to keep checking forecasts.

Dennis Speigel told the Washington Post : “It couldn’t come at a worse time. It’s the perfect storm, literally: It’s Galaxy’s Edge, it’s the holiday, and it’s just horrible.”

US President Donald Trump cancelled his trip to Poland ahead of the hurricane hitting the US - and pledged to provide support to Florida.

In a video uploaded to his Twitter page, Trump said: "It’s looking like it could be an absolute monster."

The hurricane could become the strongest to hit central Florida in more than 30 years.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who had already declared a state of emergency for 26 counties on the state's east coast, extended it on Thursday to the whole of Florida.

"Floridians need to take this storm seriously. Hurricane Dorian is moving slowly & gaining strength," DeSantis wrote on Twitter.

"Now is the time to get prepared & have a plan."

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency in 12 counties to assist with storm readiness, response and recovery.
