Plans to ask people to pledge their allegiance to King Charles III during the coronation have caused a backlash.
People watching the coronation of the King will be asked to swear their "true allegiance" to the King in an "Homage of the People" as part of plans for the ceremony released by the Lambeth Palace, the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury. The Palace said it hopes it will result in a "great cry around the nation and around the world of support for the king".
The plans have been slammed by many who called them tone deaf, offensive and a relic of the past. Others have said they will be taking the pledge and stressed it is simply an "invitation" to swear allegiance.

The oath in full, that people will be asked to say aloud, is "I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God."
Graham Smith, who heads Republic the anti-monarchy group, said: "In a democracy it is the head of state who should be swearing allegiance to the people, not the other way around," adding that "this kind of nonsense should have died with Elizabeth II."
Cllr Alan Gibbons, leader of Liverpool Community Independents, said: "You don't democratise a hereditary monarch by asking people to swear allegiance to him."

Another person said: "I'm usually respectful to others but as far as my invitation to voice allegiance to the King it would start with F and end in Off."
However others said they were in support of the plans, and even said they had done it before. Shabana Mahmood, MP for Birmingham, Ladywood told the BBC: "I think it is a lovely idea to involve the people and instead of a homage of the peers, as it used to be, it is now a homage of the people.
"Like all Members of Parliament I have already sworn my allegiance to the King.
"I am a practising Muslim, I did that on my holy book. I was very proud to do so and I will be joining in at the weekend as well."
