Will WR Javon Wims have a significant role in Bears offense out of the bye?

The Chicago Bears have been struggling on offense to start this season. Everyone deserves a share of the blame, from the quarterbacks to the offensive line to the running backs to the receivers to the tight ends and to coach Matt Nagy.

The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for the Bears as they not only rest up injured players, but it also gives Nagy and his coaching staff time figure out how the heck to jumpstart this Bears offense.

One of the players that could serve to get more looks is second-year receiver Javon Wims, who has five receptions for 64 yards this season. His 12.8 yards per reception ranks is a team-best. But he’s been targeted just nine times in five games this season.

As the Bears search for a way to get their offense going, could Wims be someone that sees an increased workload?

Here’s what ESPN Bears writer Jeff Dickerson had to say about that possibility:

It’s hard to expect much out of Wims when Chicago’s starters on offense — minus Allen Robinson II and Taylor Gabriel — have almost universally struggled across the board through five games. Bears coach Matt Nagy must figure out how to get better play out of his quarterback, offensive line, tight ends and running backs. Otherwise, the Bears are in trouble. Big trouble. Wims doesn’t seem like a priority for Chicago at the moment.

Wims certainly hasn’t been a priority for Chicago during these first five weeks. The priority right now is finding a way to get solid play out of the offensive line and establish the run game that helps the quarterback — whoever that is — that the Bears offense doesn’t remain predictable.
