Will Vikings DE Everson Griffen agree to contract restructure before Friday?

The Vikings have been working with defensive end Everson Griffen about a possible contract restructure.

The deal would have to be done before 3 p.m. CT on Friday, when his salary becomes guaranteed, per ESPN’s Courtney Cronin.

Griffen, 31, is set to make $11.3 million next season but the team could release him by paying a $1.2 million penalty.

If the Vikings released Griffen outright, they’d clear $10.543 million in cap space and it would give them nearly $13 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.

However, it would also leave a huge hole at defensive end. And for Griffen, he’s not going to make huge money on the open market after he missed part of the season as he was dealing with some personal issues.

In 11 games last season, Griffen finished with 5.5 sacks, his lowest mark since the 2013 season.

With that being said, he’s only a season removed from finishing with a career-high 13 sacks.

We have about 24 hours until his contract becomes guaranteed. We’ll see what happens.
